Hello SAF,
I am almost completed with my application to USMA and had a slight mess up last night. My two friends and I were going to the local gas station to get food, and I did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign, and because it was a short trip I forgot my license. I received a ticket and want to know how to handle this for the USMA application. It is my first ticket I have ever received and I don't want it to jeopardize my application as USMA is my dream.

Thank you and I appreciate any help.

Don't fret too much. We all make mistakes, (Except for me, all of my wooden #2 pencils are about an inch long with brand new erasers. HAHA) What is more important is how you recover, make up, rebound from these issues. Take ownership, be accountable and show character by resolving the ticket. Don't leave it open ended, then it will become an issue.

So clean it up, go to traffic school, pay your fine and learn your lesson. When asked about it on your file, report it. The ticket should not be a deal breaker.

Thank you very much, your response helps more than you know. Stressing out little over it(probably too much), and will make sure to take ownership of it, and keep pushing through the application process.

One question that still lingers though.... I answered "no" to any violation of the law in August, which was completely truthful at the time, and the portal doesn't let me change it. My court date is in late October, should I wait to hear what the court says before I contact USMA admissions?

First clean it up. When asked, take care of it then. It had occurred after you answered the file on your portal. You could send an email to your RC explaining the situation. The most important thing is to resolve the issue.

So should I wait until the court date to contact USMA? Because the infraction may be reduced... I guess I'm asking should I wait until the court date so I know exactly what to tell my RC? Or should I contact him now even if it could be reduced?

Just curious....do you have 2 SAF accounts? Are you (wegiveaship) and Cp123456789 the same person? :confused2:

yes, I did not want the ticket showing up on my main profile, so I made a "throwaway" account to ask the question..... ended up forgetting I was signed in on my mobile

I would wait till your case is closed. Then you'll have clearer view of what to tell your RC. But continue with your application

Son had two speeding tickets senior spring of HS. It certainly didn't help his application, but it was not a major issue. We were told at that time that (i) failing to disclose them could have made it a big issue, and (ii) the policy was that anything involving fines of over $250 had to go before a character review committee in admissions. Tug_boat has it right - clean it up, and report the resolution.

DS had an unresolved ticket at time of application. He reported it immediately (as "stopped and ticketed for excessive speed" or something like that. Wasn't a big deal. After resolution, he reported how it was resolved just to close the loop.

Our DD got a speeding ticket earlier this year. Then we went to WP for a visit and she was very anxious about telling admissions and the coaches she was meeting. Everyone at WP told us that as long as the ticket was less than $250.00 there should not be a problem. She reported it on her application and she paid the $25.00 fine. She hasn't looked back and as far as we know, it has been resolved.

Her completed application is in. Now, waiting on her medical status (see below) per her Applicant Site.

Agency: US Military Academy
Cycle Year:2016
Current Medical Status:Under DoDMERB Review

The worst action would not do anything, You'll be issued a failure to appear and a bench warrant would be issued. This would keep you from going to WP
