If you get accepted in USNA Summer Seminar, you are automatically a candiate as I understand it. As I recall a large portion of midshipman didn't go to Summer Seminar. Say some is to get rejected from Summer Seminar, how do they know if they are a candiate or not? Aren't the summer seminar and preliminary application the same?

USNA sends correspondence to rejected NASS applicants about their candidacy...either that they are an official candidate or they need to improve their record (normally SAT/ACT scores) before becoming an official candidate.

Yep. Mine applied for a summer seminar but didn't make it. Received notice he was official candidate soon thereafter. Fastforward to yesterday and I dropped him back on The Yard after a weekend visit.

How soon after not getting in to summer seminar, did he receive a candidate notice?
