Can you wear the clothing you receive at NASS outside of NASS. I as confronted about this the other day when an NROTC midshipmen approached me; saying that it was an official USNA uniform and not to be worn. Is this true? FYI, I am currently a freshman and a cadet in AFROTC, and I went to summer seminar in 2015.

You paid for it. You can wear it whenever and wherever you want.

Anyone can buy the USNA Ringer T-Shirt online. Those are issued to Midshipmen, but like I said anyone can buy it and wear it whenver and wherever they want.

Hahahaha no, he has no idea what he's talking about. It's not even close to official anything. That's free stuff we give to high school kids, not any sort of uniform.

If he continues giving you grief, point him to COMDTMIDNINST 1020.3B.

The Ringer-T can be purchased by anyone with $15 to spend at the gift store or at their website. If you got it at NASS wear it proudly. My youngest wore her Navy sports gear (her sisters) throughout High School and now in college during practice. Unless UCONN is playing Navy that week.

My son loves his NASS gear! He wears it to school, his dry fits to work out at the gym. Plus it's cool for him because people he doesn't know strike up convos and it allows him to talk about his experience there.

This is all actually pretty humorous and all those that have responded to the OP questions are spot on. I would love to have seen the aforementioned NROTC midshipman on the Yard a week or so ago to just to see his reaction to this:

There's a Plebe this year who bet the Sup on some particular of the USNA vs. Connecicut football game. I don't know the nature of exactly what it was, but the bet itself was if the Plebe won, he got to wear the Supe's 3 stars on his uniform for two days. He won.

My kid says it was pretty cool as there were those that tried to kiss them, steal them, etc. for the two days. I'm just picturing the NROTC MID running into this guy....I'm laughing at the mere thought of it.

Yep! True Story! That guy is my DS' roommate. :)

Would have enjoyed seeing him deal with the swapped shoulder boards on all the cadets at USAFA during the parents weekend football game...even had some of us parents scratching our heads.
