For those of you from CC, I am one and the same.

Have a HS Junior Daughter (goaliegirl) at a boarding school who is looking to ply her ice hockey craft in college and is exploring how to make ROTC work with that.

Won't say much more publically right now, as I have always agreed to clear things with her before publicizing. I expect to be asking questions in the near future.

Feel free to PM or email at any time.

Agree about hockey, but I'm a Red Wings fan. Goaliegirl learned to love the game watching Chris Osgood in net and by golly, he is still going... :shake:

And thanks for the welcome!

Hello goaliedad.
I have met the best kids and parents through ice hockey.
My son would like to play hockey at college, ACHA(club level) but the question remains how to fit it into the schedule. Hockey takes so much time out of the week.
As I understand things, NROTC does require sports involvement, but my concern is to much on his plate for a freshmen year.

We started the process in the junior year also. Lots of luck.
BTW, GO FLYERS!
Love another chance in Hockeytown.

Thanks hockeyguy21!
From what I am told, ROTC units are supposed to be flexible with regards to varsity sport commitments (they do appreciate the effort), but I can't speak for club. Generally though with afternoon hockey practices and typically morning ROTC commitments, I think the only issue are weekends where he could miss out on some games.

I understand though about the time commitment and am trying to get goaliegirl to focus on schools where the unit is on her home campus (really limiting the choice here unfortunately). Time spent commuting between campuses just adds to the load.

My son found it to difficult to play ACHA the last 2 years, the rink is 2 hours away in JAX and he has had a lab that ends at 8 pm both fall semsters. He registered for classes for this fall and again ended up a late class due to budget cuts at UF.

The ROTC was not the problem, UF scheduling for a hard science major.

That commuting thing is one of those things that I worry about ruining what might otherwise be a great all-around experience. Thanks for sharing your experience.
