Hey guys, so for the service commitment after ROTC, is it active duty or can it be reserve as well?
Just be advised that IRR call ups were very common from about 2005 to 2009 during the Iraq and Afghanistan war. All of my classmates and Army friends who ETSed at initial commitment were recalled mainly to round out units going to war and they all had already served at least one or two deployments down range. By 2006 most of my peers were smart enough to transition to the Guard/Reserve to fill the rest of their commitment in units where they were either non-deployable or at least could predict when they would go and who they would go with.Option one: 4 years active duty + 4 years IRR (individual ready reserve); Option two: 8 years Reserve/National Guard
Note: The IRR is basically out of the military - if there is a major war, you could be called up or asked to return to active duty, otherwise you're basically done.
