Okay, so I have been seeing posts of people getting appointments and I have heard of Someone in my area being recruited for swimming, and I am starting to get a little anxious- I haven't turned my application in, does this put me at a disadvantage? Or in my area I know there are a LOT of people applying this year for USNA (SE Virginia) does the person getting recruited put me at a disadvantage/do the other people that are applying at my school and area effect my chances to the naval academy (aside from competing against them for nominations)
Thanks!!

I think there are definitely advantages to those who get their application in early, since usna is rolling admissions. Its best to everyone's advantage to turn in their application as soon as possible, but with quality work. Don't rush it and let the quality be brought down.
Im from northern virginia and only a few people have heard from academies this early. I think most people will not hear until after they get congressional nominations in the winter. So make sure your congressional interviews and applications are really good!!
Good luck!! stay positive and keep working hard! :)

Thank you and congrats on the appointment!

Don't panic because 3 people got appointments. These are the first ones posted this far and they have noms. Unless a candidate has a presidential, ROTC or one of the lesser known noms that very few qualify for, you won't be eligible an appointment until you get a MOC nom. But yes, you need to get your application done ASAP, but not as the expense of quality. Quality over speed. There are lots of posts about athletes and Noms. Bottom line... focus on you.

Okay, thanks! And I have a presidential nomination right now, but I'm assuming a lot of those few spots are being filled with people who have been appointed early. Assuming that I do not receive a MOC nom, is there relatively no chance of receiving appointment since a lot have already been filled with recruited athletes/early appointments?

What Noms you qualify for and what slate you are ultimately charged to can vary as USNA puts the class together. While one might qualify for a presidential right now, they may be charged to a MOC in the end. Recruited athletes still need a Nom and to be 3Q. Time spent on this board and worrying could be spent finishing your app. Get it done ASAP. All the speculation is meaningless and just causes anxiety. Earlier is better.
