Did you get selected for the prep school straight out of high school or are you prior enlisted? If you were straight out of high school, what did your profile look like? If prior enlisted, what was the process like for you when applying?

I was straight out of high school so I can give you a little bit about what I did. Also, I was not a recruited athlete but I am now an IC at the P.

Can you compare how life at Prep differs from life at USAFA (besides the obvious)? For example, basic training, school courses, typical day/week, requirements, etc.

Basic training is a lot like the first part of basic on the Hill, so a lot of marching and learning customs and courtesies. It's not too bad, some days are better than others.

We take 4 classes, two math courses, a chemistry class and an English class. There are different academic tracks based on how you perform but that is main information on academics. The work load is a little less but still a good amount of work.

In terms of day to day life, it's like the Academy but there is more structure and schedule. The structure is a good thing though because it will help with transition to the Hill.

Did you receive a Nomination and were then offered the Prep School or were you offered Prep School with no Nomination (I know you do not have to have one, but wondering if you received one)?

Hello, another preppie here,
I actually received two noms in Jan, then offered Prep around mid-April.

Do you know anyone who went to community college before entering the prep school?
I know a few people who went to community college for a semester or two because they applied to the Academy and didn't get in. It's honestly a good way to get a solid academic foundation before coming to the Prep school or the Academy.

Hi, I read that preppies can have their vehicles. Do a lot of you have cars or is it really necessary? Just wondering if I should bother with it since I'll have to get rid of it before entering the academy. Thanks!

Most of the priors own a car, and some directs have cars, but most people go places in groups so having a car is not really necessary.

I would like to attend the United States Air Force Academy but I do not have the GPA, my current GPA is a 3.0 and I am currently a junior in high school attempting to raise it. I want to know how can I get accepted to the prep school and do I need to play a sport because I do zero right now? I am currently on the academic bowl team, robotics club, and Army JROTC.

Why do you think you did not get regular admission? Lots did without tests as good as yours, and your ECAs are great.

There are multiple factors, one of the biggest I see here is that either that person hasn't taken Calc and/or physics. Also some great candidates come from states that have a lot of competition.

Is a nomination required to receive an offer to the prep school?
No nomination needed for a prep appointment but it's helpful if you've been through the motions of trying to acquire one. You have to apply for a nomination your prep year because you need one to get into the academy.
