Physical Exam Mixup

So, I just got an email from the DODMERB, saying I need to schedule my physical exam within the 15 days, because I was offered early admission/ contract at West Point, a while ago, (like September) but recently I decided it wasn't for me. I am still applying for an ROTC scholarship at a number of other places (Harvard, Georgetown, Uchicago, etc). I finished my application and interview a few weeks ago, and I'll be reviewed by the first board. Should I call and schedule an appointment now, or should I call and see if I can get a physical after I get a scholarship?
 
Same thing with my son last year.
You could go and it would be good in the event you are awarded a scholarship.
Or you could tell them you are withdrawing your USMA application.
But be advised if you are awarded a scholarship they will not re- notify you.
Once awarded you should log on to the Concorde site and prepare your DoDMERB packet.
My son was awarded and we were seeing people on here talking about being notified, but he heard nothing.
He contacted Concorde and set everything up.
If you decide to wait your exams would most likely be at wherever they instructed you this time but you should probably confirm it.
 
I would go ahead and do it now, if possible. If you need a waiver or just additional records, the additional time would be helpful, as it can be time consuming.

I would go ahead and do it now, too. My DD had withdrawn her service academy applications early on, but wanted ROTC. She was awarded her NROTC scholarship and then began the medical review process. Issues cropped up during that time, causing her to have multiple tests, follow-ups with physicians, etc. and not allowing her to get cleared through DoDMerb until the day before college commitments were required on May 1st. It was a VERY stressful time and it could have been cleared up much sooner had she done DoDMERB exam earlier.
 
Right. But I don't have any medical issues. The only thing wrong with me is that I wear glasses. Also, I'm a quad, so my parents want I to happen on the same day for us if possible
 
Take this in the spirit it is intended. Having your parents put limiting parameters on this opportunity based on what is convenient for them is ridiculous. The military won't care a lick that there are four of you and frankly nor should you at this point.

You're right. There is no need to worry anyway, I've already scheduled them since I opened this thread.

if you are your parents do not need to go with you.

Yes, well we didn't think that our DD had any medical issues either..............until a simple test that resulted from DoDMERB exam opened up a can of worms. All was good in the end, when it was determined a test was incorrectly performed. None-the-less, all came out fine in the end, with a lot of stress in between. Years ago, when I was a cadet going in for my pre-commissioning physical, the optometrist who performed my exam indicated that my eyes were not correctable to 20/20, which was a DQ back then. I didn't even need glasses back then! I had to go through a remedial exam, etc. when I thought there would be no issue, either.
 
To add some additional context to @USMAROTCFamily 's comments, when DS went for physical exam, it went fine, although DS remarked that the doc was the biggest [insert your favorite insult here] he'd ever seen as a doc. That doc also delayed submitting paperwork for weeks, and then we he did, it was incomplete. It took daily calls from us and Concorde to get the doc to follow thru. In the meantime, much stress was felt, as you can imagine. And then after all that, we still had a remedial process to go through because DODMERB wanted records for a "YES" answer regarding "have you ever worn a brace" even though DS had indicated he did not visit a doctor and it was preventative in nature to support his knee while wrestling at the state tournament.

There are over 20 pages of DODMERB medical DQ codes. Even if you think you don't have issues, the powers that be may find otherwise. Sleepwalking. Cavities. In-grown toenails. Rashes. Time, in this case, is your friend.
