Remedial Question

Ok, My son has a low pulse rate. (He is an athlete, cross country runner, soccer player). He has had yearly checkups and always healthy. This has NEVER been an issue in his life. His resting pulse rate came back too low and a remedial for an Electrocardiogram has indicated. Does anyone know if these costs are covered?

Long story ... hubby is a petroleum engineer and was laid off in oil/gas in Houston last year. He has only been able to get contract work in the industry and there's no insurance. The insurance we have been paying for ourselves has a $12,000 deductible. I am trying to get an estimate how much this test is going to run.

If it's a remedial it's covered. The DODMERB site had a search tool. We had to drive 1 1/4 hours for my son's but we live rurally. Sorry to hear about the stress for your family! Hope it gets better.

Thank you. It's a stressful time for those in the oil/gas industry here. Hubby was with a major oil company for 15 years. There have been so many families in our area affected by this.

I am searching all over that site for help! I have gotten estimates between $600-3,000 for this test. The remedial for my son to see a dermatologist was NOT covered and we paid $200 for a dr to walk in for 5 minutes, look at a couple freckles and type up a letter saying they were not skin cancer.

You may want to call them. Past posters have said that they are very helpful.

I fixed my post. I assumed if it was a remedial, it was covered. Good to know!

My daughter (not the ROTC one), flunked a sports physical due to a heart murmur, needed a electrocardiogram, it was $1,921.00 (the insurance contracted amount), and you guess it, her deductible was $2,000. And by the way, she is fine!

I would call and find out where to get it done, and see if they pay for it before having it done. I know if you want to go to a Dr./facility of your choice you have to pay for it, but I think if you go where they send you, then they do. We didn't get that far, so definitely ask!

Thank you for all the responses. Son had his EKG remedial today. YES-the costs were covered and we did not have to pay any out of pocket. According to today's doctor who read the test everything is fine. Dr said it's the healthiest heart he's looked at in a while. Son is a varsity cross country runner and soccer player who just has a very low resting heart rate which triggered this remedial.

That's good news but we won't be completely at ease until we see the word "cleared" or "qualified" on his account on the Dodmerb website.
