Hello, I am in the 8th grade this year, and I have been interested in the USAFA for a very long time. I know its very early for me, but I know the academy is where I want to go. I recently contacted my A.L.O for the first time, and he said he would like to talk to me over the phone. Although I am thrilled to finally start preparing, I am still very nervous for this phone call. How should I prepare for this first meeting? If you have any tips or ideas to prepare please let me know. Thank you!

Hi! I am currently applying for the Class of 2021. I would just say be yourself, be friendly and voice your true passion for wanting to attend the academy. Best of luck!

Hey, I just wanted to second the notion of being yourself. If USAFA is truly your goal, you will get to know you ALO over these next couple of years and they should know your true personality. I think that it is great that you are getting involved in the process this early, it will give you a leg up over the other kids come your time to apply (class of 2026?) and will act as a light at the end of the tunnel for your high-school career.

My son had an initial phone interview with his ALO. As an initial interview, your ALO will probably do most of the talking. He will try to give you more information than get information since you're only in 8th grade.

Don't be nervous.

This is a first step of many steps in this long journey of yours. Best wishes.

Relax with the ALO!! We're here to be YOUR advocate!! Answer all questions to the best of your ability BUT...if you don't know an answer, SAY SO: DO NOT try to "blow smoke" at us...we'll know it and it'll poison the well.

We're here to help...that's why we took the job!!
