Wear An American Flag Pin during an MOC Interview

My DS has received conflicting advice about wearing an American Flag Pin on his suit collar for his MOC Nomination Interviews.

Some of his teachers and friends say to definitely wear it, because it will show his patriotism.

Others say not to because it is over the top, because one's patriotism is in one's heart and not reflected in a pin.

Any advice from former interviewers or interviewee?
 
I wouldn't (I do wear a flag pin now and then).

It's safe to assume (especially while answering questions) that he's dedicated to the country.

I'd just wear a conservative suit or blazer with a conservative, not overly distracting tie.

Wearing an American Flag pin will not have a negative impact to the interviewees. It will not distract from that professional look. Wear it if you think it will make you feel more patriotic, make a statement of just show who you are. My DS wore a small eagle scout pin, because it shows who he is.
 
I think it's fine to wear. I have had candidates wear it in the past. No one cares or discussed it.

As a die hard life long Dodgers fan who has just settled in for the game... I do concur, I would give bonus points to a candidate with a Dodgers pin! ;)

I wore a flag pin to my MOC interview last week and it actually sparked another question. They said, "I see that you are wearing an American Flag lapel pin, would you ever consider sitting during or dishonoring the National Anthem?" To which I gave an answer. So I think that in my case the pin actually made me stand out and gave me an opportunity to talk about patriotism.

Nice! It really comes down to how comfortable you are in your own skin.

If the pin is YOU, then wear it proudly. If it is contrived and NOT you, it will likely come back to bite you. Just like the Cubs bit the Dodgers. :(
 
I find it offensive and pathetic that the wearing of a flag pin would be considered offensive.

I also find it offensive that posters only seem concerned about the appearance and perception of such actions relative to how it may/may not affect their service academy appointment status.

Are you frigging kidding me????

Some of you sound like you would run away from wearing a flag pin if there's even the slightest chance it might possibly have a neagatie effect on so-and-so's appointment status.

Find another vocation and path in life if you're worried about displaying the American Flag pin on your lapel!
 
For some here, patriotism is a little deeper than the lapel, or a patch.

Do I need to wear a lapel pin to be a patriot or serve the US? No. I've taken more than one oath to the Constitution.

Why you need to wear a lapel pin for people to know you're a patriot or that you desire to serve this country.... well that's something you need to answer for yourself.

Most definitely. I wore it during my interviews since we didn't really talk about Boys State and so that way they at least saw I attended. Boys State is an amazing achievement in their eyes so wearing that pin really sets the tone of who you are.
