Ill apologize ahead of time if this is a commonly asked question on here, but for the men who have already passed their CFA, how many feet did you throw the basketball? I know that there is not a stated "minimum score" so I just wanted to get a rough idea.

I'm throwing in the 80's range....wasn't sure if that was pass or fail. I plan on working until I get to 100ft or so, just wanted to know how I was doing

Thanks!

Sean,

Okay, I'm NOT a "Blue and Gold Officer" but I'm the Air Force equivalent. We use the same test.

If you're throwing the ball over 80' every time, you have no problems. That's a fine distance!!!!

Now...how many pushups, pullups, etc? And the run...

thats encouraging!

as of now my pushups are 45-50 range...never actually only tested pushups during my workout.

Pullups are around 15

And my 2 mile run is at 11:54....

Following this thread: what is "max" for pushups, situps, pullups, and the run?
They gave me the minimums on the sheet with the acceptance letter.

Max Pushups : 75
Max Situps : 95
Max Pullups: 18
Max 1 Mile: 5:20
Max Shuttle Run: 7.8 second
Max BBall Throw: 102 ft

Because I'm interested, what are the minimums for all the categories?

Also, make sure you are practicing the right movement- when we took the CFA at NASS, our knees had to stay facing the front, our hands could not touch the floor before the ball did, and you are not throwing it like a soccer throw in or shooting a basketball its kind of a flinging motion. Good luck and from what I saw the guys doing at NASS, 80ft is great! :)

alright ill remember that....i kinda thought that form would play a major role. Did you pass the CFA at NASS when you went?

Yes I did :)
Mile time: 7:02
Pushups: above max (female- I went passed the male max as well)
Situps: max
Pullups: 3 (if you are a female try to do at least 1 pullup for the CFA- it looks better than the flexed-arm hang- I actually heard if you do one it gives you more points then if you were to max the flexed arm hang)
Basketball Throw: I don't remember
Shuttle Run: Again don't remember
Oh and just because you pass the CFA does not mean you should stop training! Its a marathon and does not stop after NASS :)
Good luck!

wow thats impressive....yeah thats a good idea! haha

What exactly are max values (prefereably male)? I can't seem to get ahold of them anywhere!

Males:
B-Ball Throw: 102'
Pull-ups: 18
Shuttle Run: 7.8s
Crunches: 95
Pushups: 75
1-mile: 5:20

Anyone have any tips for the basketball throw?

I can max out on all the parts of the CFA except the pull-ups and the basketball throw. For the basketball throw I can barely get over 50ft. I'd like to see how someone gets over 100ft.

Only a few people can throw a basketball over 100 feet...
Heres my tip: take the ball in your hand, bend as far back as you can (this will give you the maximum displacement thus maximum acceleration for the ball), throw the ball as hard as you can!
DO NOT let the ball slide off your hand, You will know you did it wrong if you feel like you spun the ball (if you let the ball spin, you will lost a good amount of force).
You should be able to "feel" a good throw.

I definitely agree with tuazeee and also remember you can use your other hand as a stabilizer :) and also remember you get a couple tries (I believe its 3...?) Good luck and with pull-ups do them and when you can't do any more do negatives. Have fun! :)

Here's a tip: throw the ball at approximately 45 degrees and the ball will fly farthest. Simple math.

Good luck!

about the throw I've heard from people that the throw really isn't to see how far you can throw a basket ball. Its more of a flexibility test to see if you can like bring you're arm back or something I'm not quite sure. But at NASS I went first in my squad and I wasn't quite sure how to do it so I only got like 30 feet or something and I'm reporting to the academy on July 1st :shake:
so yeah focus more on the push ups, pull ups and crunches.

Haha, yeah pretty much same here.
I wouldn't worry too much about the CFA; I did horribly and I'll see you there on July 1st! Congrats!

Are there time limits for the different exercises or is it just as many as you can?
