Does anyone know the website for VP Biden's application for a nomination?

So I know this is a dumb question, but I was wonder for the VP nom do you just fill out the small application on that page? It seems ridiculously small for such an important part of the admission process.

Colorado416,

From what I've heard, all you need to do is fill out that application form and send that to him. HOWEVER, he might request for your SAT and ACT scores, letters of recommendation, transricpts, CFT scores, and DODMERB exam to be forwarded to the academy. It says on the VP website to not forward this stuff directly to the VP, but rather send it directly to the academy(s) where your applying. If you have any other questions, let me know. Good luck on applying for nomination to USAFA and USNA!

Not ridiculous at all. Look at post #3 of this thread: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=5039&highlight=vice+presidential

Basically, the VP's office is not making the decision, the SA is. So you go through the formal procedure of requesting the nom. The SA you applied to will make the final determination of who is chosen, but they can't award it to anyone who hasn't made the request. No point in sending test scores and transcripts to an office that isn't actually making the decision.

The VP nomination form gets barely any information about you to begin with, and any additional info is sent to the academy. I think it would be extremely difficult to place any student above another in this situation because they will be similar in gpa, leadership, class rank, etc. This is the final thing that someone needs to get into the academy, and I think that such an important decision should be made with full knowledge of the students rather than a vague outline of them. How can they say they are part of the process when the academy essentially has all the information and the final say?

Colorado416,

I definatly see your point. When I downloaded the VP application form, I thought the exact same thing you were thinking of. I'm not sure why they ask such vague info about yourself. The VP nomination is difficult to acquire, make that VERY DIFFICULT!!! Still, you always have a chance of getting it. Good luck on submitting your applications anyway!

I'm glad you see what I mean. I hope that my application can stand out to possibly get that nomination. I don't know if wanting to go to USNA in Colorado or being female will help at all...(hopefully it does) but probably not. There will always be that exceptional candidate

It's interesting that this topic is being discussed. My S just received the VP nomination letter today and a notification card from AFA informing him of such. S didn't seek a nomination to AFA because he knew early on that USMA was his first choice and USAFA his 3rd choice. His ALO knew S would not be seeking a nomination to AFA but today this notice arrived:confused:. Anyways, he's going to call his admissions counselor at AFA to ask her if someone else could use this nomination.

From what I remember, the VP's nomination application was very short and if I'm not mistaking they asked that all info to be sent to the academy of candidate's choice not to his office.

That nom is used typically as the "get you in card" It exists for the academy to find a spot for the applicant when they have no other sources. It really has nothing to do with how great of an applicant you are. Just like the Presidential, it doesn't look at your package if you meet the criteria you are will get the nom, however getting the nom and winning the appointment are 2 different things.

if you meet the criteria you are will get the nom

I didn't realize everyone gets VP noms if they met the criteria, my bad! Well, I will still include this in his scrapbook album I'm making for him along with his AFA appointment.
