We had a Commander Dennis Evans present my son's certificate of appointment at graduation, and I just wanted to commend the folks at CGA for the work they do of finding CGA grads to come and do these presentations, and say what an awesome honor it was...in a locale that is not as CG aware, he did a fabulous job of representing the fine service academy that it is!! Hope all of you appointees can have someone at your ceremonies.:thumb:

Not all AAPs are active-duty officers. Some are, but the rest are made up of retired officers, CG Auxiliary members, former graduates, or parents of current cadets.

Academy Admissions Partners usually present appointments at awards ceremonies, although the appointee may request any military officer or high-ranking military member (Chief) that they know to do it as well.

It's part of the "job description" and one of the more rewarding parts of being an AAP. Visiting high schools, attending college fairs, and interviewing prospective candidates is nice, but getting on stage and presenting an appointment to a well-deserving young person is my favorite.

No matter what the source, they are all volunteers, some having to travel many hours to make sure that the appointees are properly recognized during their awards ceremony.

OH Yes

The AAP(CG Auxilliary) who came to my son's distant school went out of his way. We appreciated it so much. He even took it well when the graduation coordinator told him that he and the others giving appointment certificates couldn't make any remarks. He did have an opportunity to mingle with folks and do some "education" that way. He handled the entire day with honor and distinction. Thank you, sir!

We thought the USCGA appointment presentation was going to be during the school's "awards night" but maybe it didn't happen, b ut maybe it will be during the actual graduation? Our daughter's school has one student going to West Point and two others getting full ROTC scholarships. There was no mention of the two academy appointments or the ROTC awards at the "awards night" so we are now thinking after reading these posts it might be at the graduation event this coming Saturday. We got the request form in on-time but of course understand that it is not possible to cover every graduation across the country. We are in the Chicago metro-area so maybe there are several presenters in the area. There is a second appointee in the Chicago area I am aware of from Elgin, Illinois. Very exciting time!

The presentation of the appointment letter is up to you, not the CGA representative. During the awards ceremony? Sure. During graduation? Sure. You need to clear that up with the representative who will be presenting.

We put the "awards night" date on the form -- I suspect the school may have asked for the graduation date because West Point wasn't there either. Not going to worry about it.

I just had my appontment presented to me tonight and it was awesome. I recieved the loudest applause ( i think so).

haha no I think I did :)... twin :)... no I think they were about equal- everyone was definitely happy to see us twins going to Service Academies! :)

If you really want to be sure that someone will attend graduation on Saturday, I would suggest trying to contact the representative from the CGA or the Auxiliary member, if you know who that is. Last year we received confirmation from the CGA and a copy of the letter the Academy sent to the Auxiliary member who was to do the presentation. All the info and details were there, as well as a contact for the school. Against my better judgment, I trusted that they were the professionals and I should stay out of getting involved. The night of the ceremony, no one showed. My son graduated 3rd in his class of 300+ and while his classmates were receiving wonderful scholarships, it would have been nice for my soon to be Swab to have been acknowledged for his wonderful accomplishment and decision to serve. After the ceremony, we sent an email to notify the CGA employee and the admissions office that the presentation did not happen, and we never received a response back.

For Sure

I absolutely did a lot of leg work to make the presentation happen, realizing this was happening during a busy time at the Academy. Admissions office "put out the email to the AAP", but then I was on the phone with admissions to see if someone responded. A week away and no one confirmed, I started making calls myself until the presenter's ID was nailed. Then I had to do the dance with son's school to "get it done". So like most things, follow up, follow up, follow up!! Trust me, it wouldn't have been as special if someone from the school did the presentation!:thumb:

I also had to do a lot of the legwork to get it done. I had the information of the CG Auxillary member who interviewed my son and I called him first. He and I then called the CG and were able to get it set up. We both also called the school. If it is still possible - you should try to arrange it. The CG Aux. person who did our award did a fantastic job. We were very proud and it showed others what a great accomplishment it was.

All appointees are informed in their appointment package that the proper procedure is to return the "Appointment Presentation Request" form to the Admissions office at least 3 weeks before the presentation to ensure an AAP can be scheduled for thepresentation.

I'm very happy to hear that you were able to work it out and that your son was properly recognized before his community.

Please remember that all AAPs are volunteers - a mix of active duty, retired, auxilliary, and cadet parents. All have the best interests of the candidates/swabs/cadets in mind. And please remember that there are many areas of the country where there is not adequate coverage of AAPs, thus the 3-week request to ensure someone can be scheduled.

It IS a very nice presentation, a usually draws the loudest applause of the evening.

Congrats again to your son, R-Day is 32 days away. :thumb:

I'll put in a phone call to USCGA and report back to the forum. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have submitted my request to be an Admissions Partner
I have to study then take the test....

Don't laugh...the test is HARD! I thought I knew it all until I took it...had to retake twice before I passed.

And the background check is a killer.

I already signed my life away for the background check... :) but the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts have been doing those on me for years.. and after 13 yrs as a Girl Scout Leader and 7 years as a volunteer for Boy Scouts... I think I should pass... LOL... I hope...

I've taken the practice test a afew times, but I havent had the time to take the test all at once so I have not even tried it yet...maybe tomorrow while I am at work :shake:

God Bless these folks who are Academy Admissions Partners. My son's presenter drove 3 1/2 hours one-way to present him his appointment. These folks are volunteers who help make a special moment that will be cherished always by mom & dad (and the rest of the family!). We received many compliments on the AAP's presentation from other parents. Just simply awesome...... :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Two students from our school accepted appointments to West Point and my daughter to USCGA. No presentations for either service academy, (USCGA request form sent on-time). Daughter saw appointment letter presentations (including USCGA) at the school last year during "awards night" but none this year. Must be hard to accommodate all the incoming cadets from the different branches or maybe the high school changed the rules. Daughter is a modest person and didn't express any disappointment -- she is just excited about swab summer.

awards presentation

Does anyone have any current/updated information on the procedure for awards presentations? My daughter's school has a baccalaureate mass at the end of May, and she would like to begin to arrange a presentation. Thank you in advance.
