There is a discussion on the USNA side about whether I-Phones are allowed considering their media capabilities as they are not permitted to have any sort of music player. Does USMA has a policy against music players for plebes also? Therefore, are I-Phones OK to have (after Beast)?

Per my new Yuk: "They don't care about your phone. You can listen to music, just not in class."

Congratulations on your new Yuk! My new Yuk is currently at Air Assault. Was a rocky year, full of emotion and stress, but we made it!

Rules on music are decided by the companies individually. Most allow it as long as its not too loud.

There were definitely many highs and lows; he is very happy to have the year finished! He leaves tomorrow for a PIAD. I hear Air Assault is very difficult, but that they are hanging in there. All the best to your son!

My new Yuk is at air assault also, cant wait to see him next week!

America's Finest, I don't owe you an explantation, but you're going to get one anyway. Djffro and I are buddies; we know each other from the forum and from plebe net and another site as well. I don't know how much more back and forth you wanted about the pros/cons of the iPhone. Djffro and I both know some secret insider information about phones that we are not posting on here, because it will upset some people. You are about to go through 6+ weeks of hell, so we are cutting you some slack for being less than respectful to your elders. I am thinking by August some time you will be more used to saying "yes, ma'am," and "thank you, ma'am."

:bang:

I think he just wanted someone to really answer the question

You know Djffro...okay...not sure how exactly that makes it alright to post some completely off topic remarks and start a discussion with someone having nothing to do with what the poster originally wanted. He asked a question and you just started posting things having nothing to do with it. I am sure you wouldn't appreciate it if I go into your posts and start chit chatting with others about my personal life. It's rude and I believe it's against the rules (or at least it should be) to go into a post and post stuff completely irrelevant.

I'm sorry I don't systematically obey, agree with, and respect all elders. Sorry that I don't say sir or mam to every person I meet on the internet, I wasn't aware it was the polite thing to do. I also didn't know that your age somehow elevated you to a position far above everyone else. As I see it, it doesn't say "Moderator" or "Administrator" next to your name so you're equal to all other members regardless of age. Although old age does bring with it celebral degenaration so I don't completely blame you for your demand for respect.

Sorry, off topic again. My point is that personal conversations belong in private messages or in the off-topic forum. This post was made for one purpose, to ask a question and have us answer it. Trailing off into accomplishments made by your offspring brings the focus away from helping the original poster. If I am wrong would a moderator please be so kind as to tell me.

PS - My original comment about the thread hijacking was meant with no hostility and just a little nudge so that future posts would be on topic but since you felt the need to go off on me about respecting you I felt the need to educate you as there is much elders can learn because these fancy computers and internet rules are of a more recent time than yours so you may not be as familiar with it.

Hahahaha is this serious?

AF,
your attitude and disrespect is going to make you are real standout at Beast. You have fun with that.

Please let's stay on topic. If you have anything to say to me do it through a more proper means.

Please keep posts on-topic and respectful of all our members. Any more off-topic arguments will be dealt with via infractions and temp bans.

Thank you for your time.

Back to the world of iPhones. Another consideration is reception. I love my iPhone but there are locations where AT&T's coverage doesn't match up to the competition. West Point is not near a major metropolitan area like USNA or USAFA so service may be an issue. I also don't know if there is a wi-fi network available to for use. Even with those limitations I wouldn't trade my iPhone for another handheld.

Yeah, while I was there I noticed many cadets sticking their heads out their windows. It took me a while to realize they were all on their phones and the rooms didn't have much reception. I know verizon wireless for sure can only get like 2 bars and that's if you put the phone near the window. I didn't test out the whole campus though.
