Basketball throw

yeah I really need help on that. I keep trying but I only throw 52...
everything else is pretty good.

I have two suggestions, either:

1. Be naturally good at it, or
2. Practice it a lot, and study your biomechanics to throw that 1 foot further.

I think it's a hard test to do, as gripping the basketball is difficult on one end, and kneeling while throwing is just unnatural.

But just remember to train the test properly so that your scores are not compromised.

If you are really having a lot of trouble with the basketball throw, make sure you work a lot on the other events. I only got 54 feet, but still managed to get an LOA and an appointment. So don't worry.

hehe, I was happy that I just made the min for guys back when I took it. Couldn't throw that thing for the life of me!

What sucks is when you throw it 7 feet shorter on the test day than when you practiced :frown:

theres nothing hard about this event at all. If you throw at least 50 to 60 feet your good. If you lift some weights you should be throw it further.

pretend it's a live grenade

no but really just keep building your core strength for the rest of the cfa, practice the the throw a lot in many different ways and figure out what helps you to throw it the farthest you can.

really? that doesn't seem so far considering I threw 60 at SS..

I thought people threw like in the 70's to be average.

learn to throw a baseball. If you can throw a ball you can throw a basketball. My buddy did it and was throwing 30' (literally, it was sad) i taught him how to throw and he threw in the 50s. But he was still pushing the ball instead or doing a propper throw.

Have one of your friends who plays baseball or is good at throwing stuff show you the mechanics of throwing, practice those mechanics, and then you will improve tremendously.

I'm a baseball player and I threw it around 78' I believe.

It's you really have to use your whole body and get behind it.

Being a quarterback would probably help more.

I think I threw about a 68... Which was up from like a 55 from when I first began practicing the CFA. Search this forum, this has been discussed before in depth. Most of the power will come from your core strenght and from you just practicing it. Good luck!
