My daughter has been working on her AROTC application and we've come up with a couple of questions.

1) ACT Scores - Do they want us to give the top section score for all tests taken to date or do they want the scores from the single test with the highest composite score?

2) Athletic participation - Seeing that they have spaces for 12th grade participation in spring sports (ostensibly after the application deadline), do we check off sports that she has signed up for (she is a 3 sport varsity athlete) for her senior year now (in the summer) or wait to update the application as the teams start practice?

3) Athletic participation - Is it worth our time to put down in the comments section about 9th grade varsity sport participation (she is in a 4-year Boarding HS)?

Thanks in advance...

1. Put the highest from each test. You should also submit official scores.

2. Put down what she has signed up for and expects to participate in.

3. Yes! put it all down!

Thought that was the case. Just don't want to be veiwed as overstating anything. Thanks! :thumb:

Little pet peeve - Why do they list hockey and lax as one sport on the application knowing that there are a lot of players who do both and then have to explain which awards are from which sport in the comments?

One more question - the dreaded GPA. Do they want the unweighted or the weighted GPA reported on the app? Obviously they get the school's reporting, but I'd like to get our number to align with what the school is reporting.

In our case unweighted is easy even though the schools has switched from quarters to semesters while she has been there. The tricky part though is that IIRC they have changed the weighting formula (only used to determine val and sal now according to the school although officially beyond that they do not rank). So we are waiting from communications from the school regarding what her 2 GPA's are currently.

Get an unofficial copy of her transcripts from her school. Everyone should do this anyway to be sure they are correct.
Use whatever the school reports on the transcripts.

Overstating would be an 11th grade JV second stringer expecting to play Varsity.

Re: your pet peeve - so you can give them something to read! lol

I believe the school transcripts report both weighted and unweighted GPA although this may have changed now that they only use weighting for val and sal. I'm probably fine reporting either, but was wondering what was standard.

And unfortunately there is a lot to explain in a limited space including travel women's hockey.

Thanks again, though.

I finally got an unofficial copy of her transcript after talking to the registrar at her school. All grades are correct and they only report the unweighted GPA.

She (the registrar) said she would have to run a bunch of kids through a calculation to figure out rank (decile) because her school only uses weighting to figure val and sal. Hopefully the Army will figure out that her weighted GPA is about 1/2 point higher than her unweighted. BTW, this school grades hard. The median grade in most of her honors/AP classes is a B-minus.

One last question regarding the differences between the online and paper forms (PDF). I've been reading the paper forms while working on it with goaliegirl (who has been seeing DC with a favorite aunt).

They ask in question 39 on the PDF "If you worked on School Days during the entire school year, either at a paying job, on a farm or in volunteer community work, indicate the grade you were in by the number of hours worked each week."

When talking to goaliegirl, she didn't see the bit about "volunteer community work" when she was looking at the online form asking about work hours. Since at her boarding school they do plenty of community service, I instructed her to check off the box corresponding to her average weekly time spent in such activities.

I'll have her show me the online form when she gets home this weekend, but I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if my instructions were correct?
