Hello all,

I would like to ask if one nomination would be valid for several service academies. If you place the different service academies on your list of preferences will they, if they choose to nominate you, give you only a nomination for your most preferred, or will they give a nom for all your choices?

No, one nomination is not valid for several service academies. If your MOC nominates you for USNA, you can't decide you want to go to USAFA and use it there. However, one Senator can nominate you for multiple academies, but that depends on the MOC. For example, Illinois Senator Durbin requires that you only request a nomination for one academy, but on the other hand, Congressman Costello has the candidate rank the academies by preference. I have heard of candidates getting multiple nominations from the same MOC.

It is possible of getting multiples from an MOC, but when you are in a competitive state like MD, it is unlikely. In DS's case, there were kids on his one senators list with a nom for the USNA, and then on the other slate with one to the AFA. This way it gives them the opportunity for both SA's. Don't forget some MOC's check with each other so as not to have duplicate lists, this way they are spreading the wealth.

so just to clarify--after requesting nomination for example USMA another request of nomination may be sent for USNA, regardless of the outcome of the first nomination?

Depends on the MOCs instructions.

Your Congressman may ask you to "check off" all the nominations for academies that interest you, while Senator #1 may ask you to rank them 1-4, and Senator #2 may clearly state that you may only apply for one.

Every MOC has their own rules. Follow them and you'll be fine.
