Cell phone coverage?

Does anyone know what cell phone carrier has the best coverage at KP?
 
We were there as few months ago and at&t was horrible
 
nextels work everywhere on campus because we have a tower for them, other than that, it's really hit or miss. i've experienced better luck with verizon than with the other carriers. unless you've got a nextel, making a call from your room is pretty much out of the question. this is why you'll often see mids walking around aimlessly outside after classes. :)
 
It's quite the "dead zone." Even calling a cab from the gate can be a challenge.
 
We have AT&T and were able to make calls from the parking lot near admissions and several other places on campus w/o a problem. We'll see if he uses 'dead zone' as an excuse.........hopefully, he'll remember I'm programmed into his phone :rolleyes:
 
We used US Cellular until recently (I got an iPhone) and it worked OK. We now have AT&T and it also works OK, not great but it works.
 
If you have ATT...get an external antenna...this will help. If they have bluetooth, the mids will put the phone next to the window and then can walk about the room or at least move from hanging out the window! Sprint/Nextel is the best.
 
Depends on how much building / wall is in the way of the tower. and, it seems to fade in/out.
VERY hit or miss. External antenna is good suggestion.
For plebes, standing outside at attention for the short period they have cellphones allowed ... :)
 
2013 parents, don't expect a lot of telephone calls. As Zonker stated, the Candidates, Plebe/Candidates do not have use of cell phones very much until Acceptance Day, and then usually very limited use until Recognition. The best way to communicate with your Plebe is AOL AIM. This is about the only reliable form of communication. Skype will probably not be allowed until at least after Acceptance Weekend.
 
I seem to remember, back when my D/S was a plebe, the company training officer got mad at them for something and ordered them all to turn their cell phones over to him as a punishment. They complied, of course, but not until every one of them had set the alarm clocks to go off at random times beginning at 3 A.M. Two lessons here, 1) the upperclassmen will use cell phones as weapons/punishment. 2) The plebes will eventually figure that place out and find a way to have fun.

I skype with family and friends. But how do you get the skype logo up in the corner of the forum ID name and number?
I see KPmom2011 has one up in the corner. Please help!! thanks

If you scroll to the top of the forum you will see a menu called 'User CP', click on that and then on the left click on 'Edit your details'. Under that page there is a place where you can input your skype, AIM, ICM, etc names/numbers.
