I have a question about the pictures from Monday......
When they are marching (training) on what looks like the football field, sometimes in sneakers, sometimes in dress shoes, there are pictures where several plebes are off to the side doing push-ups, etc while holding their rifle, holding their hat in their teeth and the like. Does anyone know what that is about? Do they all get singled out at some point??
Thx....Just curious...

They usually march in their PT uniform with sneakers. As they get closer to the end of Indoc you will see some pretty strange combinations. Dress shoes with PT gear in order to "break them in" and Barracks covers on their heads as they do rifle drill to teach them to move the weapon around without knocking their "hats" off. This is in preparation for the drill competition and formal parade that signifies the end of Indoc. As for the push ups.....well, that's all just part of Indoc. Maybe they did something to incur the wrath of the DI's or maybe they are being punished for something someone ELSE did. It does happen. If punishing the offender doesn't have the desired effect, then the DIs may take to punishing everyone else as well. If that doesn't work they will punish everyone BUT the offending party while that person counts the push ups. The hope is that eventually peer pressure brings the errant candidate into line. If not, he is likely to have a shaving cream bomb set off in his room. There is a video of the after effects on you tube for those who are interested. Keep in mind, these are still teenagers and peer pressure is a very powerful influence. The military knows this and takes advantage of it.

Could we use either the term "training, corrective training. or corrective action" instead of punishment?

All I have to say is...

See the USMA bootcamp and you won't feel so bad! My best friend's son is there....we have it easy and so do they....trust me....they are in good hands and they will....if they survive be the ones doing this during Indocs to come.....keep the faith!

Actually they refer to it as I.T. (inspirational training) semantics aside, they are doing push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, wall squats etc. no matter what you call it the end result is the same for those on the receiving end. I was trying not to introduce too many KP terms into one post.

I have a co worker with a son at West Point and you are right. Beast is an experience that make Indoc look like a joke.

WOW.. that is kind of smart!

Conditioning their bodies as well as their minds. How long do you think it will take for them to figure out the best way to grow is to work with the people around them and develop as a team.

Can't wait to see the whole company choose to share in the push ups, sit ups, etc when their buddy is being inspired.

Seems like that might be a true sign of an honor company.

Wish I could do "Inspirational Training" with my middle schoolers!!!

I say go for it....any rules at the school about making kids do pushups or jumping jacks for misbehavior?

There are a few professors at KP who will make you do them in the back of class for various infractions during class.

yea my son in his infinite wisdom asked if he could do the "it". he told his di that the regular pt was to easy and he wanted to stay in shape for wrestling. we told him many times don't do anything to stand out!!!!!! i guess he'll never learn to listen to us. i must say that in pics he looks like he has put on weight not lost. luckily he has a tatoo on the back of one of his arms so i have been able to locate him in a few pics by that. they only have a few more days and im sure they will survive!!! luckily we have survivied with them!!!

Wrestling

Last year my son who is wrestling at USMMA as well. "This is a lot easier than wrestling practice was in High School". DIs were a bit less intense than his wrestling coach had been as well.

Only item was when he did push ups with rifle, he bruised his arms a bit.

Rest assured that wrestling practice at USMMA was harder than HS though.:shake:

Go USMMA:thumb: Beat Coast Guard:thumbdown:

what's funny is that the DIs can't do that to him, which makes it awkwardly frustrating for them. we had a kid in my platoon do the same thing and they were bound by certain restrictions to not IT him. let's just say he was saddened. for the most part the PT is not that intense and anyone in decent shape can keep up. it's really a shame that the kids that want more PT can't get it during indoc. don't worry though, after sunday he can get as much PT as he can take. :shake:

As long as the plebes are able to vocalize to the offender their "displeasure", I say go for it. Kids are still trying to find out to what extent they may "express their displeasure" without getting into trouble themselves. Yeh?

Indoc IS a joke, that is, compared to the next 11 months or so that they will go through until recognition. The plebes will be going through and dealing with things that their USMA counterparts couldn't even imagine. Nobody has it easy....everyone gets to feel the suck sooner or later. :shake:

as the old saying goes, "the service academy experience is like trying to sip from a firehose"
haha

Gaining weight?

Anyone else notice their PC seems to be a bit rounder than at the beginning? Our PC is a wrestler and we are used to seeing him with very low Body Fat (7-9%). The latest pictures seem to be showing a bit more roundness in the face and around the belly then we are used to seeing. Looks like they must be feeding them pretty good and the PT may not be as tough as wrestling conditioning.

My D/S lost weight at Indoc. You don't suppose they have upgraded the food at Delano Hall do you? Horror of horrors they might lose their rating on the Princeton Review as the college where the students are the least happy!!!!!:shake:
