Plebes without Parents/Sponsors Parents Weekend

Unbelievably, there is a plebe in my son's company whose parents aren't coming because his older brother is an '08 Grad and they've been there, done that! There may be more to the story, but I think they are doing their son a terrible injustice.

Please check with your plebes and if there is anyone in their platoon /company who doesn't have someone coming for one reason or another, invite them to dinner with your family.

You could go one step further and invite them overnight with your family. I've had many Mids stay with me. You can be extended family for those plebes and upperclass kids who don't have family at the various functions.

I concur with kpmom2011 - last year for parents weekend, one of my son's friends who is a foriegn exchange student from Singapore stayed the overnight with us in a hotel room we had for both of them and really appreciated the chance to get off campus like his classmates. For my side, I really enjoyed hearing his perspective on KP which is decidedly different than lots of other Mids I've talked to over the years.
 
Are the plebes even going to be allowed off campus overnight this year? Or is only Band company restricted?? :confused:

Definitely maybe :eek: The non Band plebes should be granted overnight liberty Saturday.

From what I learned today Capt. Force said that the Band Co plebes will not have overnight liberty on Saturday of Parents' Weekend due to the important and very honored performance the Band will be doing on Sunday morning. The Band will leave KP at 0800 on Sunday morning and head to Battery Park in the City. The parents are allowed to go to and watch the performance and, if the RC of the Band grants permission, the parents may take their Band Co Plebes right after the performance and spend all day Sunday with them.
 
That is really a bummer. Honor or not those band plebes were looking forward to a (possible) night away from KP. :frown:

If your child gets A split, he/she won't be home for any holidays for 2 years in a row.

No overnight liberty for parent's weekend is just the tip of the iceberg :wink:
 
Bummer, now even our 2/C a-splitter won't get liberty for Parent's weekend OR holidays at home..... What time do they have to be back on Sat night??
 
And what time do our plebes need to be back by on Sunday after the NYC beat retreat? I figure ours will have a few hours to travel, eat and visit? sleep? until the plebe knowledge test at 6 pm.
 
PKT 1800 sunday

The plebe class will muster at 1800 for PKT in ackerman hall. Which means you better be back to KP by 1745.:thumb:

It's on the regimental calendar. I've asked Son to find out details about Sunday's schedule, but haven't heard yet. (Of course, it's still a month away - surely not on his mind at this point!)
 
Dramama, Go to parents page and the regimental calendar is posted for all to see. I think the Mid-Atlantic parents Assoc. also has an ad for 2009-10 reg
calendars for sale. I used one last yr. and have an order for a few more .They come in handy.:smile:
 
Yes, thank you, yogijer. I have a calendar, but it shows when the test IS, and not when they need to RETURN. It was the returning time that was in question for us. My plebe is "is in the same boat":biggrin: as yours KDbax (I just couldn't help myself). They don't know until they know! Do you think they are concerned about asking questions, drawing attention to themselves, or is that "part of indoc over?"
 
It will be announced by the RC at what time the Plebes have to return Sunday. In the past they were granted liberty till about 2200 Sunday evening. But, that is totally up to the RC. :smile:

All I know is I'm glad we stayed overnight on Sunday because we got to visit with son more.
 
In the past winning the football game always put everyone in a more generous frame of mind. The fact that they will be playing the Coast Guard only increases the stakes. While nothing is assured, winning couldn't hurt. GO KP. BEAT COAST GUARD!!!
 
All plebes have a Plebe Knowledge Test at 6 pm. How long does it take to complete the test? and do you think our plebes might be free after the test?
 
In previous years, they have been given liberty until 2200 our something similar. It has usually been announced at the end of Beat Retreat with the comment that it is in honor of the Band's wonderful performance. In that case, the PKT was canceled. No one can predict for certain what will happen this year. There have been changes, as everyone on this board has noticed. Even last year, while most people expected the extension would happen, no one could be certain until it was officially announced. Be prepared for the possibility, but don't count on it.

If they do have to be back for the PKT, be back early. They will need to drop their stuff and be in place by 1800. Remember that early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable. If they have the PKT that will be the end of their liberty. Once you bring them back to KP, do not expect any more time with them.
