I seem to remember seeing a letter on the USMMA home page about visitation rules. I can't find it anywhere. We are planning on attending church and saying hello to our PC on 16 Aug. Does anyone know the current rules regarding church and contact with the plebes? And, where to find it for future reference?

Mike

I remember seeing it on the parents page, but I don't see it now. Seems like it dealt specifically with INDOC.

Attending service at the KP Chapel is be fine. As for "saying hello to" your PC - that's probably not fine.

After acceptance day you will be able to attend church and then spend some time with your plebe. Until then, you may attend church but contact with your p/c is as, the earlier post said, "not fine."

It apparently was a mistake being posted about visiting after church with your PC before parents' weekend. That memo was from last year. The Academy cannot stop you from coming to church, but visiting is discouraged. From what I hear, next year it will be made quite clear that no parental visits until after acceptance weekend.

I thought it was pretty clear this year. At the Parents Meeting on the day we dropped DS off for Indoc and in the letters passed out at the meeting and on the website.

Folks, It's time to let go. It does no good to remind them too much of home when they are just starting out. This process is amazing, in that it takes great kids and turns them into responsible young adults. Time, distance and a certain amount of isolation are parts of this process. We have done our jobs. It is time to let The Academy, it's staff and The Regiment do theirs.

Well said!
This is a process that has worked since 1943 and though it is hard (mainly on parents), you need to adjust to the fact that your kid will be at sea. Yes, half of next year and almost all of the following. Then you must adjust to the fact that if they love it out there (and many do!) they will be gone half of every year. Let go. I know it's hard, but it is the best for them.
Understand that any pressure from home just adds to the already huge pressure they are going through. They can do this and so can YOU!:thumb:

I have gone to every Catholic Sunday mass since I showed up here during Indoc. It is incredible to see how many parents and children attend mass and see their P/C sons and daughters. However, going on the campus and showing around is crossing the line. Its ok to talk to them after mass for a short period of time or sit down with them right up the path where the picnic table are, but when you show them around the campus and treat it like its Parents Weekend, its not really fair to the kids that live outside 100 miles from here.
