Urinalysis without microscopy--REMEDIAL

Yesterday, i received a notification from DoDMERB requesting that i go for a remedial urinalysis...my parents were somewhat concerned about this effecting my medical qualification...how routine is this and why was i selected for further testing?...i have never received bad results from a urinalysis from my personal doctor, drink water, exercise regularly and have never used drugs...any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you
 
that happened to me last year. Itcan simply be that there was too much protien in your urin. I thought that I drank plenty of water too. The trick is to up your water intake, and I mean A LOT! My personal doc told me to drink alot of water for the week leading up to my test and then take the sample forst think in the AM. I passes the second time no problem. I kno 4 others, all of whom are now at serviceacademies who had to redo the urinalysis too. good luck!
 
I am not a DoDMERB official so as always I would defer to Larry Mullen's expertise. Averx615 is right, a lot of times, at least with high school physicals, the urinalysis will come back with protein. This is not an uncommon finding in active teenagers, particularly in boys. The best thing to do would be to stay well hydrated and not do any extensive exercise/activity the day prior to giving your specimen and try to do a first morning specimen (when you've been inactive for several hours giving less chance for normal muscle breakdown to cause elevated protein levels in the urine). Now having said that, there are several other reasons why the urinalysis could be off. A high protein level, blood or sugar blood in the urine could also signal kidney disease, kidney stones, infection, diabetes, etc. These would be much less likely than the first explanation but still need to be evaluated.

i've had the same thing!
elevated protien levels. have to re-take

i was told its probably due to my intense activity level (cross country and basketball every day)

so hahah NO RUNNING this weekend and LOTS of water!
 
Intense activity and varying degrees of dehydration does cause elevated protein levels in a urinalysis test:thumb:

hey me too and a question

Hey this happened to me too! My urine have always been normal. Which remedial option is the best to choose? A few days after my Dod medical I had another yearly physical with my regular doc and everything, including urine, was normal. Should I have that test forwarded or redo it with the dod physician? Thanks

urinalysis

is the urinalsis that they do at the exam part of the drug test or do you have to go back for a seperate drug test?
 
This screening exam is for urologic conditions. DoDMERB does NOT perform any drug/HIV testing. Service Academies perform the tests within 72 hours of arrival at the Academy; ROTC perform these tests around the 3rd year of ROTC for the commissioning exam.:thumb:

This happened to me last year. I had to repeat the test three times so don't sweat it! :thumb:
