They have slain the Beast !!!

"March back" was this morning and if tradition holds, they are "enjoying" being welcomed by all of the upperclassmen as they join their academic companies - all to the tune of Darth Vader's theme song blasting on the loud speakers

Congrats to the Class of 2013 !! Ya'll are AWESOME.

Does anyone quit after beast?

Did anyone quit? Or is it too early for that?

In case there is someone that isn't familiar with the Darth Vader theme, here it is:

Some dropped

Local news reported that 1248 returned. I believe that they started with 1300 or so. What a summer for these kids. Blackhawks, rappelling, gas masks, rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns. I laugh thinking about the old theme we had to write on "What did you do this summer?"

Good job class of 2013!! Now for the next challenge...class starts on Monday.

Note that not all of those that did not finish Beast, quit. Some were medical turnbacks and hopefully will be back for Beast Barricks next summer.

Yeah, a lot of people quit (a ton from Foxtrot Company for some reason) but some were medical. I know of a girl who was sent home because she was hurt the whole time and seemed to have anxiety (that's what her roommates told the doctors). It's sad because it was her second time at Beast since she'd been turned back last year for similar reasons and now won't be allowed back next year...really sad too, she was really smart (2390 SAT).

Anyways, glad to be back.

is CBT

like a 4th class system for Westpoint? are they given their privileges and respected by upperclassmen after that? and how long is it?

CBT is cadet basic training. You are called "new cadet" because you aren't a cadet until Acceptance Day at the end of CBT. CBT is about 6 weeks long.

The entire first year you are part of the fourth class, also called plebes. Plebes do not have many privileges. At the end of the year (the morning of graduation usually) the upperclassmen will recognize the plebes, they shake their hand and ask them what their first name is. Then they are 3rd class cadets, called yearlings, and have earned some privileges.

is BCT

kind of like knob year but shorter? never really looked into the academies, only The Citadel.

Oh yeah and 1297 reported to R-Day so about 50 left for a variety of reasons.

And yeah, plebes get nothing lol but we got so little as new cadets that the stuff were getting now seems incredible lol

Hey AF! I'm very happy to see you've finished your task! I'm proud to know you! Welcome back and I for one look forward to your prospective from the Point!

BTW, my son is finished with CCBT at Prep and positive as all heck! Call him, they received back their cell phones this weekend. I'll tell him you're back too, he hasn't received his laptop yet, he 'volunteered' for a military license and they (the 19 others that were with him) missed out on laptops and have to wait till next week. They have all learned the valuable lesson of....never volunteer! lol

Hey don't go hating on Foxtrot. We kicked butt!!!!!!!!!!! But unfortunately we did have the highest percentage of drop outs, which included one who asked for resignation papers within two hours of getting taken to the Cadet Area.

Anyway, which academic year companies are everyone in. I am in H-1 so "ROOTHAWG, or die!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm not familiar with knob year at the Citadel so I can't answer this. CBT at USMA is similar to Army basic training that enlistees go to.

Welcome back America's Finest and Icelander!! A.F. what company are you in?

I can't believe my son is a Cow already...time flies when you aren't a cadet. :yllol:

I'm in F4 Frogs. What company is your son in?

And yeah, it's like basic. Wake up at 0500 for PT and go to bed at 2200. You mainly do a lot of briefings first detail about the honor code and get many things issued. Second detail is a little more relaxed with the focus shifting from dicipline to training. It all depends on your company though.

My son is in E-2, GO BREWDAWGS! He was cadre for E company 2nd detail. I talked to him briefly last night. He didn't get much sleep during his detail and it has caught up to him. He told me he has lots of good "new cadet" stories but they will have to wait until he is coherent again.

Welcome back New Cadets - soon to be Cadets!! You did it !!!! :yay:

LOVE the Class Motto - "Defending the Dream" - Great job!

Congrats to A Company for being selected the Honor Company (my son's company BTW :shake:).

Hope Re-Orgy week goes well.

Can't wait until Saturday!!!!!! :jump1:

Some people put the dumbest mottos at first lol I saw one of them was "Don't forget your canteen" and "duty driven war machine", they gave our cadre a good laugh :shake:

Personally I really wanted to see our motto be Class of 2013 "So fresh, So clean!"

Hey A.F. what Beast company were you in?
