I just recently decided that I wanted to apply to West Point and I know I am not prepared for the CFA. I will be doing mock tests probably every day other than the BB Throw which when I did I got 41ft. I know my mile is very slow like 9:30 and pushups I can push out 15. My shuttle run is a 10:58 and I have not tried the flex arm hang. If I practice everyday would I be able to achieve the average scores? I do not want to take the test unprepared which unfortunately I am right now.
I got a friend who was a SF officer before he went to medical school. He had lots of badges on his chest and tabs (Special Forces, Ranger, and Presidents Hundred) on his shoulder.
I asked him about the Presidents Hundred tab because it’s hard to get. It’s a sharpshooting badge. I specifically asked him what he did to earn the tab.
He said to me, “You’d be amazed at what you can accomplish with some practice.”
The only general advice I would give you is to not shoot for average. You need to shoot for above average. Pushups are very low and run is not good at all. Yes, if you practice everyday, your scores will increase.
Here’s what I told my daughter last year when she was applying. I told her the admission rate for West Point is 10% (or use whatever number you want). I told her that’s the average candidate. I told her it is within her ability to have a 40, 50, even 75% chance of admission IF she is well above average with her ACT, CFA, GPA, Class rank, Girls State, team captain, meaningful club membership, etc
If she is average for all the above, then expect a 10% chance for getting in.
I’ve simplified the admissions thing quite a bit but the point to my daughter was to shoot for well-above average and your chances of getting in will be well-above the average rate. She got a LOA to West Point in late August and she is thriving at her dream school. The LOA was a pleasant surprise. She wasn’t worried about it (getting a LOA) at all. She knew she had a fighting chance to get in because her stats were high- regardless of an LOA.
Good luck and think about shooting for well above the average scores.
