Competing with people from my area

I am a Naval Academy Candidate for the class of 2014 who lives in Texas. Just today, one of my best friends who attends the same school I do says he is now considering applying to USNA also. I would consider myself a competitive candidate (2290 SAT, AP classes, ranked 7/800, Eagle Scout) and my friend has grades and activities extremely similar to my own. If we both get nominations (our congressmen give 10 without a primary), would the fact that we live in the same area (and go to the same school) make it unlikely that we would both receive appointments? Does the admissions board take into account geographical representation when giving appointments?

No problem. One may be appointed off a MOC slate and the other off another MOC slate (apply to all for which you are qualified). Or, one can be off one MOC slate and the other out of the National Pool. Or, maybe your MOC will have two openings this year (they can have a total of five at each SA at any given time). The SA will select the best candidates to fill the best class possible. If that translates to both of you then it will be both of you. It will depend on how many slots your MOC has available, if you both apply to other nominating sources (and gets noms), and how you both match up against the other candidates in each nominating pool as well as the national pool. Best advice: apply for all nominating sources that you qualify. Don't forget the VP and Senators - often candidates will assume they couldn't get a Senator nom so don't even both applying, particularly from bigger states like yours (Texas) and ours (CA).

There have been previous threads regarding multiple mids comming from the same high school. It does happen and not that uncommon. My advice to you is do not worry about your friend. He/she is just one more competator out of the the 12-15K who may apply for the class of 2014. Bottom line you do not control this so do not worry about it.

What you do control is your application process. Put your application package together the best that you can. If it's your dream to attend USNA then chase it as hard as you can. Best of luck!

Where are you from in Texas? There are some districts in Texas that have been tagged "under represented" by USNA. I have seen the list. I think someone put it on here last year.

My son (currently plebe at USNA) had two classmates who are in their first year at USAFA and one at the AFA prep school. Multiple candidates from one school can and does happen, every year. We are not an "under represented" district for USAFA.

The representative from my area is John Culberson. I doubt it is an under represented area, but I have no idea.

Does anyone know what districts in Texas are "under represented"? (I am from the 13th District if anyone knows if that is one or not.)
