Potentially pilot qualified?

I'm just curious which candidates here are potentially pilot qualified on their dodmerb.

Does it actually say PPQ on the DoDMERB website?

What are the reqiurements for it? I'am pretty sure I'am.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. My counselor told me whether I was or wasn't.

I don't think we'll find out until later. I checked my medical record here and it says I'm DODMERB qualified only.

Yes same here, although I am not at the academy, I am "qualified" on DoDMERB. I think that I am pilot qualified, unless they know something that I don't, but I have never been told one way or the other.

they dont give you a PPQ, PNQ, or Comm rating anymore for you DoDMERB physical, if it is like it was the past few years.

PNQ= potentially navigator qualified
Comm = Commissionable

I was told USAFA will tell you if you are PPQ when you're at the academy.

That is correct. You find out at the academy. There are too many variables to try and make a blanket statement that a person is PQ. That's sort of why they don't do that any longer. They assume to just make you qualified for the academy and the air force. Which job, they'll worry about later. However; there are some obvious medical traits that can assist you in guessing if you are pilot qualified. Obviously, a 6ft 8" recruited basketball player might have a difficult time trying to qualify for a fighter position. Someone wearing coke bottle glasses and their optometrist at home told them that lazik or PRK wouldn't work on them. But generally speaking, the academy will let you know.

FWIW; I know of 2 cadets; 1 is currently a C1C (Senior) and the other is a C2C (Junior) who both game in dieing to be pilots. After going through the altitude chamber, the one said he never even wants to think about being a pilot again. The thought of that training again in UPT totally turned him off. The other was fine with everything until he went in the gliders. They need 10 flights to get their wings. He said he Puked in 5 of them. And of course then has to see the flight surgeon. Not sure if he got his wings, but he said he'd rather find a different career. Anyway; you'll find out in enough time if being a pilot is in your cards. best of luck. Mike.....

Yeah, I know a guy who got an F-15 ride. He started puking after the 3rd turn, so about an hour and ten minutes out of an hour and twenty minute ride. I'm pretty sure he decided he never wanted to get in another fighter.

Well I know for a "fact" that DoDMERB does determine whether you are potentially pilot qualified based on your medical, optometric, and audiologist exam. I've been told this by my ALO and I even contacted DoDMerb to check on my status. They told me I was, indeed, potentially pilot qualified. Although this is the case, I have no intention of becoming a pilot. It's just another factor that the academy looks favorably towards (according to my ALO). FYI, it's not displayed on your application page you need to contact DoDMERB and ask.

S was definitely PPQ'd--had to take an additional "depth perception" test to qualify and than received his LOA. Was informed by admissions and DODMERB he was PPQ'd and that USAFA likes to see about 50% of the incoming class with that status. Does NOT mean they will have that status at the end of the day, year, commissioning........ But without a doubt, some do have that designation going in....

Isn't this kind of like saying you are "potentially a millionaire"

I wouldn't put too much into the DODMERB qualifying you as PPQ. Is it better than nothing, sure, but Air Force flight surgeons would be the final authority.
