Chances of Admission?

I was just wondering what my chances for admission to USMA are with my following grades SAT and ACT and extracurricular activities. I am going into my senior year of high school, and i will be entering College in 2010 ( class of 2014):

GPA:95(3.9) weighted all AP and Honors courses at a good Public High school
SAT: M-680 CR-670 CR-640
ACT: 29 composite
Extra curricular activities:
National Honor Society
LOTE Honor SOciety
Awarded the AP Scholar Award
Physics Club
Future Business Leaders of America
Sacristans
Volunteer 2 hours a week at a retirement home
Coach 3rd grade boys basketball team
Athletics:
Junior Varsity Basketball Captain
Junior Varsity Soccer captain
Varsity Basketball captain (2 letters)
Varsity Soccer (1 letter)
Work:
Telephone Operator 3-5 hours per week for one year
Basketball Referee/scorekeeper 9 hours a week in the summer
Soccer Referee 3 hours a week for 2 years
Ralphs Italian Ices 6-9 hours a week 1 year


I would just like to know what the odds are that i get an appointment. Thank you for your help
 
I have seen many w/ similar stats get an appointment. However, what you don't mention is where you live. How competitive is your region for a nomination? Those stats in a place like Northern VA are very different than those stats in Wyoming (no offense to those in less populous states). Your stats are far superior to many who are currently attending, but stats alone are not the whole picture. Best of luck.
 
Yep - apply and find out. That is the only way.
West Point is seeking candidates who fit the scholar/leader/athlete model. If you feel you fit that model then apply!
 
No one can tell you your odds of an appointment based solely on statistics. All SAs look at more than just "numbers." What will your teacher recommendations look like? How will your (USMA equivalent of a BGO) view you? How did you do on your CFA? And, as others have pointed out, what is your competition?

Folks with high grades in core AP classes, high SATs, varsity sports, good leadership are on track. But many with those attributes don't get into one or more of the SAs for any number of reasons.

Finally, people on this board are not the decision-makers. Even if we were to say you were a shoe-in, or that you had no chance, our decision is worth what you've paid for it -- nothing. The only opinion that counts is that of USMA admissions. So, while you may feel better if we say you're golden, it really shouldn't give you much comfort. Sorry, but it's true.

As the others have said, apply. Put your very best forward and see what happens.
 
Thanks for your help my CFA should be pretty good: Basketball Throw:80 feet Pullups:14 situps:80 pushups:75 and mile run: 6:06, i live in new york, the competition is not that big, and hopefully my letters of recommendation will get the job done. Hope I get in, thanks for your help

I would think the competition is big in New York. :confused:
 
He could have meant rural New York, or he could have meant extremely urban New York City, where I imagine competition would not be very...competitive. Although I'm not sure on that.
 
I live in Long Island, there is some competition, i think only like 10-20 other kids in my county are applying to a service academy
 
what county??? i'm from nassau and i know of about 8 from my school and about 5 others not from my school?? o and what congressional district(king, mccarthy)
 
I'm from nassau too, Mccarthy, what high school do you go to?
 
If you want to be come an oficer in the uS Army - you can given realities of medical and physical condition. That should be your objective - not to gain entry solely to West Point. Consider ROTC and enlisting with various "Green to Gold" channels, prior service application to West Point, trying for a few years to gain entry to West Point and go to college.

Basically, to ask if you can be admitted based upon what looks like the record of an outstanding person is the wrong question.
