My son has submitted his application to the Naval Academy. Everything is complete except for the nomination. He is medically qualified. Here is the question...
A week ago, my son injured his knee while playing catch with a football. He received his MRI results today and he was diagnosed with a crack in one of his knee bones. The doctor and his trainers said that this was the best scenario for him - it wasn't a torn ACL or minicus (both which would require surgery) - it was a knee jam that cracked the bone. The path to recovery is time - He needs to be on crutches for the next 6 weeks and if the bone is healed, then it is just a matter of strengthening the leg as it will become weak during the next month or so. The doctor said that he will able to play basketball in early December.
Does my son need to notify the Naval Academy regarding his injury? I am not quite sure what the rules are regarding this process. Since he was already medically qualified and this injury will heal within the next 3 months, is it still necessary to notify anyone?? And if so, what is the correct manner in which he should proceed and what will the Academy tell my son to do with regards to this situation? He just wants to do the right the thing as USNA is his first choice!
