My son has confirmed almond allergy ( not other nuts). Is there any posibility for him to be accepted into uscga? Should he even bother to apply? Thanks.

Every individual case is handled differently. While food allergies have been difficult to "waiver" in the past, I don't think anything should stop him from applying.

I would advise him to continue with the application process, while at the same time he should contact Larry Mullen with the specifics of his case. His info is at the top of this section.

Thanks for the encouragement. But after further reading on this forum. I think my son's chance of uscga acceptance is very slim. He had an anaphylactic shock after eating quite a few of almond cookies. He required an emergency hospitalization. By avoiding almonds he is pretty much alright. Thanks for all the advise in this forum. You are the best.

Larry,
This issue is of interest to me as I have a child with tree nut allergy. (not peanuts). Anaphylactic response on more than one occasion. She is a very competitive high school senior and given her grades/SAT/ec's/desire to attend she would be a great fit for a service academy. (CGA) While I know each case is different, my question is, do you have personal knowledge of anyone receiving a waiver for such a condition? I've heard it said that if a service academy wants you, they will find a waiver. True in allergy cases as well, or are they LIKELY to be a deal breaker for an otherwise competitive student?

Thanks in advance. I know your personal touch and examination of each individual case may preclude you from a definitive response. Just curious if you've heard of success cases in the recent past.
