My son had his file complete for the first AROTC board that met recently.
He has also applied ED to Virginia Tech. So, now we WAIT..... oh this is so hard! What was your experience with the AROTC scholarship process? Esp. with VT..
Thanks for any replies!

Haven't had experience with VT, but yes the waiting is hard. Congrats that your son's application is complete and has a first choice for schools. That's fantastic. My son's rotc app is complete and he just applied ED last week, so I'm waiting right along side you!!

I applied to NROTC and AROTC also at Virginia Tech ED also and I am losing my mind waiting!!

I agree!

I can totally identify! This waiting is so hard!! My son is much more patient than I am!

If the site is up, check his scholarship status to see if it changed yet. Or e-mail the Cadre at VT?

We can relate. Our son applied for the NROTC scholarship by the first board with VT as his #1 school. Unfortunately, because he is also applying to USNA, he was not able to apply to VT for ED (binding). He has his VT application ready to go. Should he just go ahead and submit it now (checking the regular decision box of course), which is really early for regualr decision, or just sit on it for a while since I'm sure admissions was bombarded with ED apps.

Does it make any difference if he submits early for regular decision or does the app go in a pile only to be reviewed after the Jan 15 deadline?

We hope he hears something positive about the NROTC scholarship soon. That will make it easier for all of us to sleep.

The site is still down. I think this time it's been since Monday evening.

Col. St. Jean (RET) at VT should be able to tell you when the Army Cadet Command will convene for the initial selection

Proud Dad

My son is a freshman at VT AROTC right now and is going home this weekend for the first time since Aug 15. We've been through this process and I know how hard it is playing the waiting game - just be very patient...

Still waiting too

My son applied ROTC - Virginia Tech but not ED (binding). It is his second choice. A neighbor just got a call yesterday from a prestigious private school in Pa. They offered him an ROTC scholarship. They said there were only 250 awarded in the country. I find that hard to believe and wonder if anyone knows if this is true? anyone know how many scholarships the Army awards?

I don't know if that is true for the next school year. But for this current school year VT awarded 68 full scholarships for the AROTC

If the cadet command board has convened already then it should be a week or so before the results will come out; the wait for VT acceptance will be longer if you are not accepted in the early decision phase.

Thanks for posting that info. We did contact the PMS at VT and found out the my son did not make the cut this first round - and he mentioned the bar was set VERY high - so congrats again to those who got an offer :thumb:
We'll hope for the best for the next board - Dec. 1st ish.
thanks again to all who post here - it's so encouraging to know you're not alone!!
