I'm so excited! I just got my Air Force Academy LOA in the mail today! :yllol: congrats to the other candidates who recieved one! and to people who are still waiting - good luck and keep your hopes up!

Yeay!!

LOA!

Congratulations and thanks for posting. After reading your posts I realized no one had looked at today's mail....and there it was, an LOA! Wow!

Congrats! Remember the feeling...

Now it's time to enjoy your senior year. Trust me, time will fly, and you'll want it all back about 3 hours into your Academy experience.

nice job!!! enjoy the time between now and june something.

Thanks everyone! I'm sure it's partly b/c of ya'll that I made it this far, b/c of all the great advice I've been reading on this forum since I first started the process. I hope to be a help to others too.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!

I remember how excited *I* was when my sons came on their birthday - tomorrow!!! I can just barely believe that was already two years ago!!!

I remember they took the letters to their fencing coach and he announced it to the club and how great that feeling was.

Again, hearty congrats from the heart of the Steelers Nation!

Congrats now go and buy bubble wrap to wrap yourself up :shake:

Congrats! Can you post your stats so we can get an idea of what they are looking for?

Congratulations, we are looking forward to seeing you in June.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support and for sharing your stories. I would love to hear from any cadets who have time to post or PM me and offer any advice.

I'm NOT having a fun senior year, too many immature kids full of drama who just want to go to parties and don't care at all about their futures. I don't feel like I fit in. If the party life is what it takes to fit in, I won't do it. But I will miss my family for sure.

Pima - I am worried about doing stunts in cheerleading, I wonder if I should avoid them to be on the safe side?

damevaako - Did you finish your application? Feel free to PM me, we can encourage each other!

Some of you asked about stats, I hope its ok to share them and hope it can help. I have an extremely busy schedule (I'd be very bored if I didn't!!!) so I will try not to be boring and just narrow it down to the highlights:

My GPA as calulated by USAFA is 4.01...(I don't remember the last number), Rank is #2/70. ACT scores are all good, in the 30's except math is not impressive. I was really worried about my application because of that but it goes to show they do look at your whole person.

I always took every AP class I could and have taken "dual credit" college courses since last year. I'm taking all the challenging course that are available this year.

CFA: I don't have my scores with me but on some events I did very well and got to or near the max and some are closer to average. I did the average on the flexed arm hang (got to work on those pull ups!!!!!)

I attended the USAFA Summer Seminar, loved it!!! Over the summer I went to alot of leadership events, one was NSLC, the others I had to compete for the opportunity to go.

As for athletics I haven't played alot of "sports" in High School. But I have always been a cheerleader and I am also a Certified Fitness Instructor. That is what I do for my after school job, teach kickboxing and other exercise. My boss wrote USAFA a letter about how my job is both leadership and athletic. I got certified when I was younger b/c my parents always make us work to pay for our own gas and I really didn't think I would like the kind of after school jobs my sisters had.

I have officer positions in several school clubs and in one community club. When I was 15 I started my own organization that helps the poor, I have raised $20,000 and its been nationally recognized/awarded. I'm still working to raise as much as I can before I graduate. My organization is the result of knowing personally what it is to do without, (hard times in the past, long story) so I have a big passion for service; it's been the highlight of my life! I also volunteer at agencies that help the needy and get to see first hand how the money raised is helping people in my community...very cool!

I do alot of public speaking in my community and work with community leaders which is fun. I hold my own fundraisers and get adult and teen volunteers to help me work them. (I have a big one coming up this saturday!!!)

I volunteer to work with kids at church too and I'm just always doing something somewhere. I guess it's good that I am not use to sitting around watching TV since I won't be doing that at the academy!

Very impressive

Jezzie, your resume is very impressive and congratulations. Are you considering other colleges because I imagine your mailbox and email are overwhelmed by offers to apply to schools across the country? My son Ryan, who got his LOA last week, has Air Force #1, but he also has plans b and c which are: UCLA, UC San Diego, and USC, and plan DDD: Phoenix University.

Advice?

...don't bring it weak ;) Do what you're told. Come prepared physically and mentally.

Arrival of LOAs

According to my ALO, USAFA plans to send out the majority of their LOAs in the early spring. This might make some of you feel better, although I know the waiting part is NOT fun.

I think that would be the majority of appointments would be sent out in early spring, not LOAs.
