Complete NROTC Application?

As i have written before, i received my appointment to USNA about two weeks ago. I was so excited and have already sent in the papers and accepted the appointment. However, i was in the middle of my NROTC application when i received my appointment. Should i finish the application if i have no intention of going there? My local recruiter seems to think so, as he keeps calling me. But i do not want to take a scholarship away from someone else...... Thanks so much!

I am in the same boat. I was applying to USAFA, USNA, AFROTC, and NROTC. I just accepted my appointment to the Air Force Academy last week, and the NROTC recruiters kept calling me. On Monday when they called, I told them that I had accepted my appointment to the Air Force Academy and asked them to withdraw my application. They wanted me to finish my application anyway "to make them look better" but I told them that I didn't want to take a scholarship away from another candidate and my parents didn't want to pay the application fees for the 5 schools NROTC required you to apply to.

Why would you waste your time filling out more paperwork for no good reason? Actually, falcongirl...you should keep striving for that USNA appointment. You can become a meteorologist, accountant, UAV operator, or country club manager at any fine state school. No need to go through the pain and suffering of USAFA just to do that.
USNAwaterpolo....congratulations. Shred all that excess paperwork and enjoy high school while you still got it.

Take care of yourself.

Do not be concerned about some unknown, unnamed person who, theoretically, will be disadvantaged.

I would complete the NROTC process because you don't know what is going to happen between now and Induction Day at the Naval Academy. What if you severely twist your ankle? You're done! If you can't march, cannot participate in PEP, cannot do the obstacle course ... etc - you will likely get your appointment revoked. Your appointment is contingent on remaining healthy.

Your local recruiter understands. Just let him know about your USNA appointment and your intentions. If he wants you to continue with the NROTC process - with that understanding - you should definetely do it. That's a great back-up!

If it doesn't bother the NROTC folks - it shouldn't bother you.

If you get injured and can't go thru Basic Summer Training are you saying it'll be no problem for the NROTC college? They will let you keep the scholarship even if you can only do the academic class but can't initially do the PT?

From what I understand with ROTC, you just need a note from your doctor, srsly. Even if you haven't taken and passed the PFT, they will still consider you for a scholarship if you have an injury and a doctors note.

I think it depends on the extent of the injury. But I do know they are FAR more lenient than the academy is on this issue.

That would be a good question for an NROTC recruiter.

Keep your options open! Do not think that your (theoretical) scholarship just goes back to some mysterious bank account. MANY NROTC offers are made. Students choose other schools, or are not accepted to an NROTC school, or a myriad of other situations ALL THE TIME. The scholarship will be re-offered to someone else later. Your generosity is admirable but misplaced. You will not be depriving anybody. The Academy standards are high and non-negotiable and every year the unthinkable sports injury happens.
