How to get the Supe's nomination

Hello all,

I've been very fortunate from the Grace of God in passing through the USNA admissions board with an LoA. However, I am toiling through the process of legitimizing my effort so conceived and so dedicated by vying at all costs for a nomination. I have 5 chances of receiving a nomination excluding the fabled "Superintendent's nomination". However, if my 5 chances yield no fruitful result, what must I do to pursue the "supe's nomination"?

Nothing you can do. There are Nominations you can apply for, and other sources over which you have no control. If you do a good job, apply to everything and still don't have the Nomination, THEN, maybe, they will consider using one of the other Nominating sources. So do your best over the things you can control and don't worry about the rest. I think there is a prayer that goes something like that.

Agree. Do NOT count on a Supe's nom. Whether you have an LOA or don't, give your MOC noms your best effort.

Agreed. A Supe's nom is not for you to pursue. Your best chances will be Senate and Congressional. It also depends on the competitiveness in the state in which you reside.

Just focus on presenting a positive image of yourself and not what you believe the interview board wants to hear. Be yourself.

There isn't a list of competitive states per se -- just some states from which a large # of candidates typically apply. Among those are MD, VA, PA, FL, CA, and TX. Probably a couple more that I've missed.

That said, there can be non-competitive districts within competitive states and, conversely, extremely competitive districts in states that, overall, are not that competitive. Competitive districts are often, but not always, where major military bases are located.

It's also important to understand that competitive districts and states also send a large number of folks to USNA each year. So it's not the terrible disadvantage some make it out to be.

Regardless, for 99% of you, there's nothing you can do about where you live. You can only put together your best "packet."
