Our son received a letter scheduling his interview with our Congressman. We have not heard anything from the two senators' offices as of yet.

Does everyone applying for a nomination automatically get interviewed or does each MOC select who they would like interview?

Depends upon the MOC. They all do things differently.

For my MOC's, it stated in the my congressman's application, "you have to meet the minimum requirements in order for an interview." For my senators, "you had to meet a certain criteria it stated." Make sure you ckeck and see if your application packet says when interview notices will be sent out. For my senator, I got my interview notice two days from the interview date, getting a little hopeless, but then I seen that great letter! By the way, I have a question, I got an interview notice from all 3 MOC's, is this a good sign?

USMAalltheway: Of course it is a good sign. Now go blow their socks off!

We're in Fl the same as USMAalltheway and received an email Sunday and a letter Monday for the interview that was today for Senator LeMeuix. My son had all 3 interviews as well do not that for Nelson and LeMeiux they did not interview everyone.

USMAalltheway, where were your interviews for Nelson and LeMeuix?

Lol, thank you for your comment jennyp!

CJS,

My interviews were at the following: for Nelsom, it was outside of Orlando at the Valenica Community College by Metro West.

The one for LeMieux was in the UCF business building, a couple of blocks from where the gateway building shootings happened. This one really stressed me out. There were three interviewers: two guys and a lady. One guy was a USMMA grad, the lady was a retired ROTC 1st lt., and the one who stressed me out the most, a brigadier general from OSC. But overall, the interview went well.

Did your sons interviews go well?

My son had Nelson's interview at Novasoutheastern College over in Fort Lauderdale and LeMieux's was at USF in Tampa. We're down in Southwest florida so both were a bit of a hike for us. Where are you?

My daughter is a senior at UCF so I quickly texted her when I got the alert about the shooting to see where she was. Crazy stuff.

Glad to hear your interviews went well as did my son's.

Good luck!

You had quite a distance to go between your interviews. I live 20 miles from downtown Orlando so , they were both only 30 minute drives. So nothing bad in the least. Was your daughter allright? Did your son get any questions that were difficult for him?

Our son has finished 2 of his 3 nomination interview appointments...BOTH offices told us they had far more applicants than they could possibly interview...First office said they had well over 400 requests, only accepted top highly qualified for interviews...turned down 60% for interviews...second one said they had over 300 requests, only accepted aprox half for interviews...both offices said they narrowed it down by GPA, Class Rank and extra curriculars...so to be granted a nomination interview is a HUGE step...especially in our area...GOOD LUCK to all!!

I had my interviews at the same locations. I was impressed how simple the whole thing went considering how many applicants they must be interviewing. We made it out of Orlando before the shooting thing started. I live in Sanford, where are you?

One of my senator interviews is about 45 minutes away, not too bad. The other is 2.5 hours away (ouch). And both are during the school day, which is what will really hurt me. All I can say, is thank you to my Rep. for hosting the interview 15 minutes away on a Saturday!

Harmi, Im glad to here that your son made the interviews despite the cuts being made, that must be nice to know. I should call my guys and see if they did the same thing. I would of never expected Oklahoma to have so many applicants. Ddd your sons interviews go well?

Bulldog- that be crazy! I live in the same exact town-Sanford. You go to Seminole High by any chance? I live by the town of Heathrow but where I live is registered as Sanford. Do you have your interview with Mica?

Lol, vamp-did your interviewer give you an excuse note or anything. My people offered but my school doesnt really care, so I didnt take one. Did anybody have any interview questions that stumped them?

USMAalltheway

Crazy!

I also live by Heathrow, by the soccer complex. We must be neighbors! I go to Lyman for the engineering magnet. Got my interview with Mica at 11:15 next Saturday. See you there???

Lol, yah I live fairly close to there. I live in Lake Forest. So not to bad. Yes, you will be seeing me at Cong. Mica's interview. I have an interview with the USMA board at 11:10AM and the USNA board at 11:50AM. What academy are you trying for? USMA seems to be at an all time low for Florida (I cant say thats a bad thing at least for me), but a crazy amount of Naval and especailly Air Force candidates are trying out. I looked on the sign-in sheet for the interview with LeMieux, there was like 30 or so kids signed in, I seen four-one of them me, for West Point, the rest for AFA or NA.

I came in late on this thread so sorry if I am not up to speed.

DS has already had interviews with our two Senators and we have the appointment for the interview with Congressman over Thanksgiving weekend.

I just assumed that everyone who applied, got interviewed. I'm wondering if that really IS the case. Should I be optimistic since he was invited to interview with all three possibilities?

In the confusion of this whole application process, I could use a little optimism!

Yes, its definitely a good sign. Usually boards dont interview everybody...that being said, its best to call the MOC offices and ask whether or not they cut certain individuals.

USMAalltheway

Not sure how many applicants get interviewed. I would guess that the panels have limited capacity, and have a max number they could handle. Applicants in excess of that number might not get an interview.

In my son's state (FL) he had interviews with all 3 MOCs, all last week. We saw several of the same kids at these dates, but also talked to a few that definitely did not get all 3 interviews.

BTW, he already got an email from our Congressman's office that he got that nomination.

congrats wookieslayer!

Our Congressman is in a competitive district and holds interviews on 1 day only. Son received a letter for interview, I can't imagine that there can be too many kids interviewed if it's held on one day only.

However, my older son received a nomination from same congressman w/o interview...we were overseas at the time.

Yes, congrats, wookieslayer! That's great news - and a load of stress lifted. I guess different districts have different processes, not to mention numbers of applicants to consider.

We were very fortunate that both senators held interviews in the same central location in our state (NJ) on the same days. I know a lot of the kids coming in were saying they drove two and three hours and we were lucky enough to live 30 minutes away from the college they used.
