Did I ruin my chances?

Hello all, I am in desperate need of some help right now. Even though I submitted my EA application 2 weeks before the deadline, I did not send in letters of recommendation until after the first of November. I e-mailed my AO, and he said that it was unfortunately too late for them to be considered by CEEB. Will this significantly hurt my chances for admission?

Extra recommendation letters can definitely help your application, but they are not the definitive factor upon which appointment decisions are made.

Which LORs are you talking about? The mandatory ones from your teachers?

If that's the case, you did NOT meet the EA application deadline.

Just means you won't be considered for EA. Once the 'regular' boards begin in January you will be with the rest of the applications.

You haven't ruined your chance, just missed out on finding out a bit earlier. Best of Luck to you!

Luigi- I have the required LOR's in. I was talking about the extras...is it going to hurt me when everyone else has sent them in but I have not?
USNA- So do you think that I would just be defered for RA?

Honestly SamAca, I think you will be just fine. You definitely will be considered under EA because all of the mandatory forms were sent in. You seem to have a pretty strong profile and I can promise you that not everyone sends in extra recommendations, I didn't and I was accepted under EA for the c/o 2013. Just relax and enjoy your senior year...R-Day for the c/o 2014 will be here before you know it.

I can't say you will be deferred to RA or not (no one but the CCEB will decide that) but I can say that you WILL be considered for EA, since you did submit the required recommendation forms on time.

The "optional" LORs are nice but not mandatory. Yes, they can help, but you have not "ruined" your chances by omitting them.

Only 35 days to wait.

Apologize for thinking that the recommendations that you were referring to were the 'required' documents.

It's true that any extra recommendations that were not turned in before the EA deadline won't be considered by CEEB for EA. If for some reason you are waitlisted then the extra recommendations may serve to strengthen your package during the regular boards that begin to meet in January.

Best of Luck to you :thumb:

230 days away!

I am sending that info on to a kid I know...and a couple hundred of his friends. I think they will be happy to hear that the countdown to 2014's arrival has begun.

And here I am just counting the 39 days until he is home for Christmas.

But only 15 days until home for Thanksgiving!

Not for my kid...too far to travel for too short a stay. He is heading "home" with a friend. He's ok with it, but I am gonna miss seeing that kid eat! We'll have more leftovers for sure...especially dessert.

Remember EA Applicants- you will not receive a definite "NO" at EA decision.
You will either be offered an [A]Appointment or a Deferral to Regular Admissions.
If you receive a Deferral it may be for medical reasons or there is something more they are looking for academically etc... you should take that opportunity to submit any additional updated grades, transcripts, ACT, SAT scores.

Good Luck to all of the Applicants!
