Our son did summer seminar in the summer of 2009 and received his LOA in October....awaiting and hoping for a nom......now the 3 questions:

(1) do you recommend that he also participate in a Candidate Visitation Weekend and why? He has a strong desire to do so.

(2) do you have to be invited or can you request it? If you can request it, who is the best person @ the USNA to request it from?

(3) when are they scheduled for the remainder of 2009 and early 2010?

contact the admissions counselor listed on his online application. I think they call it the regional director. When my son emailed that he would be visiting USNA last month they mentioned that it was a shame that the cvw for that same week was full, otherwise he could attend. Doesn't hurt to ask. You'll either be told Yes or No! Can't get a "Yes" if you don't ask!!:smile:

Your second and third questions have been answered, so I'll only comment on #1. IF you can afford the travel costs, attending CVW can be useful in addition to NASS. During NASS, attendees get the "sales pitch" about USNA, but during CVW they room with Plebes, and they attend some actual classes. There is no way that a candidate can fully understand the grind of Plebe year in just 2 days, but during CVW they can at least see a bit more of what being a Plebe is like than during the "Mock Indoc" of NASS. CVW also gives candidates plenty of time to talk to Mids and ask questions they haven't had answered any other way. OTOH, if costs are prohibitive, not attending CVW will not hurt a candidate's chances.
