Rejection

During the past few months, I have been in the process of working to get into my state's Governors Honor Program, having gotten a nomination, passing an achievement test, and attending county interviews, and today I got a rejection letter saying I would not be advancing to state interviews. It stung real bad because I had worked so hard to get to that point and then I got rejected.Anyways, I feel bad and was wondering how one should deal with such rejection? A consolation...I can apply next year if I get a nomination, but one problem: I plan on doing academy summer seminars or boy's state already during summer of next next year and was wondering if I had a choice between attending GHP vs. Boys State, which I should do, and if I had choice between summer seminars vs. GHP, which I should attend? (that's why I was really hoping I would get accepted to attend this summer)

What's not important is how we would deal with it.

What the academies will want to know is how YOU deal with it.

It's a common question on essay themes in a SA application, or one that is asked by an ALO/BGO/AAP/MALO. Y

Your actions and/response to the rejection (how YOU handled it, what you did to change it, how to ensure a better outcome next time, etc) can become a valuable lesson that can help you in both your SA application and in your life.

Luigi is spot on plus....you have the rest of this year and next, to distinguish yourself. Your SAT's and ACT's will be more important as will an appearance at the Summer Seminar, stay on top of that stuff and don't focus on the negative. From reading one of your posts I can see you're dedicated, keep it up

So what would rank of importance of attending be:

Boys State-GHP-Summer Seminar

OR

Boys State-Summer Seminar-GHP

OR

Summer Seminar-Boys State-GHP

Probably Boys State and SS...after that long application process for GHP (with tests, interviews, etc.) just to get in, don't think could handle not getting in a second time after all that when I could do something else that is just as good and interesting and doesn't require so much to get in (understand it a long process with academies too but am willing to go through it)

2012 Cadet, the various Service Academy Summer Seminars are only available to you the summer after you complete 11th grade (at least that is our experience with USNA and USMA). I think you are currently in 10th grade which would mean you can try one of your other options for summer 2010 and then apply for your choice of Service Academy Summer Seminars for the summer of 2011. Some Service Academies do offer summer Sports Camps for younger people, but I have no idea of any details for those, but I'm sure you can find info. on the various Academies websites.

Have already looked into the sports camps, thanks for trying to help, but can't go cause they are to far away (expense-wise) and can't afford camps with others plan on already going to (locally).
