Today my son had a 20 minute phone interview with two people from Sen. Feinstein's office and then an in-person interview with 15 people sitting on a board for Congressman Lungren (CA Dist 3.) Based on his reaction and description, things seemed to go well. We learned that today was the only day of interviews for Lungren's office (26 total.) A staff person said we'd hear from Lungren's office by mid February. This seems late, but I didn't question her on it. He already has an LOA. It now feels like the application process is finally done after about one year since applying for the summer seminar, etc. (By the way, thanks to all of you who've provided advice and insight on this forum.)

Hi MikeandChris,

My son was one of the ones interviewed by Congressman Lungren's office... son printed out 10 resumes thinking there would be about 5 people on the panel... Nope! He wasn't sure what to do, so ended up not handing any out. Interesting to here that only 26 were interviewed. I know the gentleman that was scheduled right before my son was a no show. My son does not have a LOA and we haven't heard anything from Feinstein or Boxer. I'd assume that your son's phone interview with Senator Feinstein's office is a good thing :thumb:

Good luck! It is nice knowing everything is done, isn't it?

Welcome to the board

I'm glad my son didn't know there would be 15, it would have made him more nervous than he was. My son is applying to the USAFA. There was another from his high school interviewing for a USAFA spot, as well as the candidate who interviewed just ahead of my son. Good luck and welcome to this website...it has a lot of information, advice, humor, and tea leaf reading.

Sorry for the misspelling of Cris!

My son is a candidate for USAFA as well. Makes me wonder if maybe they did all AFA interviews Saturday? Regardless, best of luck to your son. It would be great to introduce them at some point should they both get in :)

My understanding

My understanding was 26 total interviews for all SA. McClintock's district has 34 and they're doing it over two days. And this is all educated speculation, but Congressman Lungren had two young men from Dist 3 (nominated by Ose) that graduated in 2009 from the Academy, which means he may have up to 20 nominations for USAFA alone. Again, this is triple hearsay, so take it for what it's worth

I urge caution when speculating on things like this. The process is much more complicated than it might initially appear. For instance, I know of a district that will have 8 graduate from USAFA in 2011 but zero for class year 2010. The 2010 year there were no available slots because an outgoing MOC stacked the SA making it so that 2010 had zero openings and the incoming MOC had no available slots from which to create a slate and could thus provide no nominations that year (for that SA). Of the 8 that will graduate in 2011, only one of those is "charged" to the MOC. While there may be cadets graduating that were nominated by your MOC district, that does not mean they were charged to your MOC so your MOC may not have multiple slots. And, if they do have multiple slots, it is quite possible that they will not use more than one slate in order to balance for another year (in the above example, that particular district would not likely fill two openings, preferring to save one for next year because if they were to fill both openings for 2014 there would be none available for 2015).

thanks

Thanks 2011, I should know better that there is no general or easy answer when it comes to nominations. My son is at the "now I wait" phase, and I need to stop speculating.

Nomination this morning

Okay, I think I've posted this everywhere....next is to hang a banner out the window. Our son's USAFA online application now indicates that he received a nomination from Sen Feinstein! Big smiles in Northern California!

Very nice!!! Congrats to you and your son!!! I knew that phone interview had to be a good sign

Thats a little odd to notice it on your USAFA portal before being contacted by the MOC office, Congratulations!

My son just had the same thing happen. Was notified by his senator last Thursday of his AF nom from him. Kept checking the AF online app to see when that showed up and on Monday it showed that one and one from his congressman (that he hadn't been informed of). He then checked his Navy app and it also showed one from his congressman online too. That was yesterday and he still hasn't heard anything from them directly.
