Jennyp..this may sound stupid...but is there really a "box" candidates need to check off if they are nominated? Do they need to notify the academy or does the nominating MOC?...Just getting a little paranoid here...LOL..son received his nomination last week...for USNA, no LOA though, but is 3 QD....Thanks!

The MOC notifies the SA of the nom, the candidate does not have to do anything. Be a little patient on that - sometimes they do so immediately upon notifying the candidate and sometimes they may not submit it right away. The MOC does not have to get the noms to the SA until January 31st so there could be a delay. MOCs and their staff know that this is a stressful time and they do want to get the notices out promptly, however, there are lots of valid reasons that they may choose to hold off on the official notice to the SA. One easy reason is that the while the nominations are submitted preliminarily by computer, there is a paper that the MOC must sign for each candidate. With Congress in session, it's frequently difficult to get the MOCs signature, particularly if the district office handles nominations (which is the norm). If the MOC district is far from D.C., it can be difficult for the MOC to get to the district as often as those that are geographically closer to D.C.
Similarly, if your MOC had interviews but you have not heard- be patient. The panel may have decided very quickly (usually as soon as the interviews are over) but the MOC may require a de-briefing before the noms are done, and again, when Congress is in session, such a debriefing is not something that can be scheduled quickly.
