Boots for Class of 2014

The boot and low quarter shoe letter has been signed!
It should be available on the Candidate Log In portal shortly.
The letter authorizes incoming new cadets to purchase boots and black shoes before coming to West Point. The prices listed below are AAFES prices. If you purchase through another source, expect to pay more.

The approved boot manufacturers for the hot weather tan boot are Wellco, Belleville, McRae and Altama Delta. Two websites posted below....

http://www.bellevilleshoe.com/product.php
http://www.wellco.com/

The men's shoe is an oxford style, black leather, mildew resistant; non-shiny; DSCP - AAFES key item #M206H, $45.65); authorized one pair.
The women's shoe is also an oxford style, black leather, moccasin toe; non-shiny; DSCP - Style 90100: key item #M210P; $45.60); authorized one pair.

The black leather oxford shoes may not be available in all military clothing sales stores. They can be purchased at most Air Force clothing sales stores.

Recommend visiting a GOOD shoe store where feet can be measured before ordering if ordering via phone.

Recommend bringing one pair of shoes and one pair of boots at a minimum. Additional pair of boots and shoes will be issued on R Day. Spend time in your shoes/boots to get your feet used to wearing this type of footwear and for break in purposes...eliminating the potential for blisters and foot problems during summer training.

Boot approved for incoming cadets or do they have to have what the USAFA, USMA, or USNA provide for them to the "T"?

Is it an issue if the boots have an issue or commercial sole on them?

Thanks for the information!
Went to the web sites you linked and have a newbie question.
Do you have to get a specific tan boot? Or will any of those do?

I'm waiting to see someone like America's Finest to point us in the right direction. We want to get our DS the Nike boots I hear all the cadets are wearing, and I want to make sure they're good to go before spending the dough.

Although AF is a good source of info since he is a plebe, your best bet for info is from a staff member, such as Deb Dalton, who moderates the West Point Parents group on facebook. She posts info that is current and is from the admin.

Mom3boys is right, you need up to date information which I cannot give you. I only posted the Facebook information so that candidates would know that the boot letter will be available very soon.

Another reliable source of information is prospective.net, sign up if you haven't already: http://www.west-point.org/parent/prospective-net/

I don't know if this is still true, but when my son was a candidate he was told that if he showed up on R-day with the "wrong" boots they would issue him two pairs. He could keep the others to wear later but had to wear the issue boots during Beast. It was the same with the low quarters.

My understanding is the tan boots do not need break in time but the low quarters can be a problem if a new cadet is not used to wearing them. It is more about getting your feet used to lots of standing and walking in low quarters than about breaking in the shoes.

The reason the candidates are being encouraged this year to purchase both boots and shoes is that, despite being told different, it became evident last summer that the boots DO require some break in time, at least for some folks. My son was a 2nd detail squad leader, and he had to deal with several in his squad whose feet had suffered greatly due to not having the boots broken in beforehand.

Despite the best intentions of the folks on prospect-net, the ONLY source of accurate, up-to-date information for parents (of both cadets and candidates) is Deb Dalton. She is the one who put the info out that started this thread, and would be glad to answer and questions anyone might have. She works out of the USMA Directorate of Communications and is the West Point Parent Liaison. You can contact her at Deb.Dalton@usma.edu or (845) 938-5650. Deb is extremely approachable, and happy to help!

Candidates, remember your best source of information will is your admissions officer or MALO.

Luckily DS has a set of low quarters (not shiny, yes CC's get to wear Corframs sp?) from last year at JROTC, and they are worn in perfectly. He plans on using them (low quarters) and his issue 'PREP' hot weather boots for Beast. He expressed an interest in the "Nike" boots and claimed all the Cadre were wearing them and I remember AF saying they would be acceptable for beast.

I talked to Deb Dalton today, and her direct quote was "The approved boots are mentioned in the letter. If they call AAFES and order via their phone line, they will be directed to the right boot. NIKE is not authorized. If they show up with the wrong boots, they will indeed be issued the correct boots."

Your son's cadre may have them on this summer, but that is a different story. He'll have to wait a bit longer... He's going to have such an advantage as a prepster -- and broken in shoes/boots are part of that! :shake:

I was kinda thinking along those lines, DS has 2 pairs of boots and two pairs of low quarters, one of those pairs is definitely out (Corframs sp?) and we'll just have to wait till after Christmas. There is a great looking light weight set (I linked the page in a previous post) that say ACU approved and are light weight, anyone know if since that was linked in the first post, are they OK?

DS loves Prep and is beyond excited about next year, he is preparing and working as hard as possible. He is absolutely respectful of the advantage and privilege that Prep has given him. His TAC's and teachers have all written some incredible letters about his dedication and work ethic, so we know he's working hard.

Does anyone have a link to where I can find the women's oxford shoes?
