One of the options I am considering is applying for an NROTC Scholarship. The problem is, I can't decide whether I will want to apply for a regular or marine option scholarship. First off, the only reason I would want to do Navy is to be a SEAL or maybe possibly a pilot (if don't get into AFROTC/AFA). However, in the Marines, I could do infantry, intel, or aviation (all interesting, but this list in order of interest). My question is, based on this, do you think I should apply for NROTC Regular Scholarship with the hopes of making as a SEAL/possibly Navy pilot, or should I apply for Marine Option since I have more available options (note: If I did get into SEALs, that would definitely be my first choice as far as Navy/Marines is concerned). On another note, is one scholarship or the other harder to get?

I've had my interview with an officer and I asked him the same thing. He practically told me that I am able to change options, whether it be Marine to Navy or vice versa.

I am in your position. I also want to be infantry in the Marines but I also want to be a SEAL for the Navy.

Really?...hmm, If that's true then that is very good for my situation. If this is true, is their a certain date that you can no longer switch scholarship options?

I just realized another question related to my first about after I commissioned...first scenario: if I commissioned Navy, went to SEAL training, etc. but didn't make it, I could cross-commission to the Marines? Is their any stipulations on this (i.e. age limits, etc.)? Also, would have failing BUD/s affect my chances of being recruited later into Force Recon, if I did?

Second scenario: I commission into Marines, decide to cross-commission to Navy to try out for SEALs, but fail...can I back commission to Marines again? I am guessing the same stipulations for the first scenario would apply? Also, same question about "would have failing BUD/s affect my chances of being recruited later into Force Recon, if I did?" as well?

The consensus of what I read on this forum and others is that the regular NROTC scholarship is a little easier to get than the Marine Option (since there are far more offered). It might not be a bad idea at this point to seek the NROTC and change to Marine Option later if that is what seems best to you.

wow you and I actually have the same questions.
From what I remember from my interview, he said that if you were to fail a test for pilots (since he was pilot), you would be sent into SWO (surface warfare officer)... and testing for pilots are hard. You can only fail 3 times...and the duration of training is 4 years.

Not sure about the Marines...

Not for pilot...SEALs (cross out pilot...probably leave that for AFROTC/AFA for now)

Thanks...makes sense as it's NROTC, not MCROTC
