NROTC Board Question

My sons page changed to this today:

"Missing Items
All required items have been processed.

Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application."

And after that it has his contact information and who I contact if I need to change anything

It then shows his SAT/ACT scores and college choices.

Since it has been "determined" that this indicates he has been passed over from the December board, as it is the only one he was submitted to, our question is how many applicants have gotten a scholarship if they were passed over the 1st time?

I don't think anyone (other than perhaps in the hierarchy at Navy ROTC) knows for sure why this message appears. In the following link we did speculate what it might mean:

You'll notice my daughter's status changed 3 weeks ago and on Dec 18th she was selected for a NROTC scholarship. So it was less than 3 weeks from the time the message changed to when she was selected. Good Luck to you and your son.

Aglages,
Congrats to your daughter! So if I am understanding you correctly your daughter's page showed the same message as my son and then she was awarded a scholarship 3 weeks later? Based on the dates the boards meet she must have been successful at the Dec board.

Gaswimmom: Yes, you are correct. Actually it was about 18 days later. Good luck to you and your son.

Gaswimmom, my son received a NROTC Tier 3 scholarship late last February. His application was completed in October, so his application went through several boards before he was selected and we looked at that same message for months. Son did receive a couple of calls from a NROTC scholarship counselor in late December and again in January encouraging him to change to a Tier 1 or Tier 2 major, but he didn't do that. Don't get discouraged, but make sure that 'Plan B' is solid. Good luck!

My daughter is in the same boat. Yesterday her status changed from the original selection message to the one that you have posted. The December board was her first, even though her app was completed two months earlier, due to a paperwork foul-up (they lost her math teacher writeup).

Now we get to wait some more. I love waiting!

Thanks for the reply s1732. Son is a Tier 1 applicant- he intends an engineering major. Plan "B" is covered, he has been accepted to a number of universities already, most with good scholarship money. Matter of fact he has received admission to his 2nd choice school already, with money and an invite to their honors college.

Sounds like your son is all set. Congratulations to him!

I would not assume that he has been passed over. Son had that message for quite some time even though his package had become separated and was not going before review boards. If you call Lt. Connor, she can tell you if his package has actually gone before a review board and been passed over or if perhaps something else is amiss and it is still awaiting review.
