AFA says religious climate improving

Interestingly, feedback from exchange cadets indicates that religion plays a less-visible role at USAFA than the other academies.

While I come from a dominant religion (so I probably don't notice as much as some), religion is a pretty small deal at USAFA.

I wouldn't be suprised if the media reports of the last few years were blown out of proportion. I was at VMI during the first few years of coeducation, and I can certainly relate to the media not accurately portraying a climate in a military college. Regarding USAFA and the religion issues, if I remember correctly, a lot of what I read at the time had to do with complaints about a baseball coach having prayer meetings, the then-commandant's use of biblical passages in emails, and a cadet newspaper advertisement promoting Christianity. I also read that there had been a growth in the number of chaplains at the Academy who were of an evangelical denomination. While all that might be true, I'm guessing that the majority of cadets paid very little attention to it (what with other things like school, sports, extracurricular activities, and commissioning on their minds). Still, I'm glad to see that to what extent this was a problem several years ago, it is less of a problem now. I'm a nonbeliever personally, and am glad that cadets at USAFA can exercise their right to believe in whatever they want, or not believe at all, without interference from higher ups.

^^^ let's try "denomination." Woops....that little typo could get me into a whole heap of trouble on this issue.
 
So it looks like I spelled it right after all. I did forget the "r" in "surprised" though. I think my vision is getting crappier day by day.....it sucks getting older.
