My app status just changed to "hold". What does this mean? I got my nom a few weeks ago so im hoping its somthing good.

Thanks,

Kevster

It means that you are qualified but the Academy is waiting to further evaluate you for admission. You will be competing for admission against other applicants who are from the same state with the same nomination.

Ok so I checked DODMERB sit and under USMMA it says "offer extended" but on my online app it still says my status is "hold". So I guess my question is which one of these is right?

Funny! I'm in the same boat you are! Mine says offer extended on DODMERB and Hold on MMA website. I spoke w/ LT Flahive at Admissions and she said that I'm on hold until all the nominations come in for my area. I was hoping for an offer as well but I guess the waiting game continues.... good luck to you!

Haha that is funny. Yes I must say I'm getting really good at the waiting game. Good luck to you as well!

Just out of curiosity where are you from? You an east coast kid like me?

I was hoping to hear something before X-Mas and in a way - I did. Not the best news but there's still hope. Did you apply at any other academies?

Yeah all of them except USMA. So far the only ones I have heard back from are USCGA (deferral) and USMMA. How bout you?

me too (but the USMA as well). Haven't heard from any though. Does a deferral mean that you will be reconsidered when they evaluate all the candidates? My application wasn't in by the deadline to be evaluated earlier.

That is correct from my understanding. Objee said the roughly 100 people out of 975 got deferred to the following boards. 15 got apps and 10 got offers for GCAS. Im hoping for the best. I think my best shots are at USMMA and USCGA. Im kinda out of my league with the others.

Not sure about USCGA cuz that's one of the most difficult. I guess they only take about 300 per year and there's no nomination process - strictly by your record. I'm trying to remain optimistic though. Did you get nominations to the Air Force & Navy as well? From what I've been reading on these forums, it looks like with a nomination, and passing everything else (physical, CFA, doing well on interview, etc.) could mean a 50% chance if you're at least somewhat competitive. I guess it all depends on the competition in your district/state that you're up against. I don't have a clue where I rank in my area so it remains a waiting game for me! Did you apply elsewhere in the event you don't get into a svc acad? I applied at some colleges in RI and FL just in case. I heard that if you're from Montana, you could have a real good chance at any because of lack of representation from there! lol. Maybe I'll move next year!

Yeah I have a pres nom to USAFA and USNA but nothing more for those two schools. Yes I got accepted to a school with AFROTC and still waiting to hear from another with AFROTC and NROTC. How competative is RI? I know its pretty small but I would imagine that it being on the coast makes it harder than the size would indicate. O and Yes I have often thought to myself through this whole process " Man if I could only live in North Dakota" lol.

So true! I'll move to SD or something when I have kids if they express an interest (just so they don't have to go through this waiting)! It's torture. I think RI is pretty competitive for the Naval Academy. When I went for the congressional interviews, the rooms were packed and about 65% were for Naval Academy only, about 20% for USMA, I only met one kid that applied for the USAFA, 1 for the USMMA, and no one mentioned the Coast Guard? Of course, I was only in the waiting rooms for no more than 45 minutes each, so who knows how many came through each day! I'm just trying to stay optimistic and hope for the best. I'm sure the state of the economy is going to increase the number of applicants from previous years too but maybe more disqualifications too??? I go for my interview with the USAFA liaison on the 29th. Did you have yours yet?

Yeah from what I hear the economy is making admission a little harder. I had most of my stuff finished early all my interviews were done by July. Regardless of the outcome I think this whole application process ( interviews, writing all the freaking essays, and doing it all by your self with out parents) is really good. Have you had any other interviews yet?

Yes, I've interviewed for the Army ROTC, Navy ROTC, Blue & Gold Officer for the Naval Academy and I have the Air Force interview for the Academy coming up. Other than those, just the three congressional interviews (2 Senators & 1 Congressman). I will still have to interview for the AF ROTC one too, but I haven't heard anything from them yet except my packet is finally complete. You're right - all the work that goes into this is insane but I've learned a lot in the process. (Like not what to say in an interview - lol). The worst part for me has been the essays and questions because I'm not too great at writing - definitely a weak area for me. Fortunately, my guidance counselor at school reviewed them over the summer for me and made changes to the gramatical errors and suggested a lot of ideas so they ended up being fairly decent. Keep me posted if you hear anything - I'll do the same!

Nobody mentioned Coast Guard because a nomination from a MOC is not required.

When asked which Service Academies they were applying to, none mentioned the Coast Guard. Maybe they understood the question to be what service academies they were interviewing for? I'm not sure.
