I think the USAFA SS has a "day as a doolie" where attendees are treated as doolies for a day. Does the West Point SLS have a day as a plebe?

They didn't last year. Nothing like that - no memorization or anything. Navy had "Practice Plebe" evening, which was actually only a half hour, but they had rates to work on memorizing all week leading up to it.

Incidentally, Doolie for a Day was only for the morning this past summer too - it was done before lunch time so the poor little kids didn't starve! Although actually my son said that at breakfast, they treated it "serious" for about half of it, but still let them relax for the last few minutes so they could all eat adequately.

Because of this experience, I think either of the other two seminars (Navy/AF) at least give you a better feel for if you would be willing/able to put up with being yelled at and how well you can memorize and perform under pressure. I realize it's all much, much lower key than for real, but if nothing else, you can get the feel that if you are NOT happy with this prospect, then maybe an academy isn't for you!

One thing my son found he had trouble with (that I'd never considered since I'm 5'8), is that since he is so tall (6'3) that he never knew where to look when someone was yelling at him. He said sometimes he'd look at the cadre's faces and then they'd yell at him, asking "Are you looking DOWN on me? Get your head and eyes to the front!". Meanwhile, sometimes he'd look straight ahead in the same situation and have someone say "Why aren't you looking at ME when I'm talking to you?!" Just kind of funny, but probably less so when it's for real!

Thank you!!!! Haha that's pretty funny...good thing I wouldn't have to worry much about that since I'm only 5'3 (girl) lol . I was actually hoping that West Point SS would have a plebe day for the exact reason you mentioned: to see if I could handle the stress and pressure. Thanks for your response. I might have to decide between the AF and WP summer seminars.

I've heard there's another one that's even tougher, they hold it in New London.
