I know I've asked a few questions on here before, but a few things occurred to me which raised a few questions.

One, at the end of track season last year I was recognized as a Sunbelt League Scholar Athlete. Which would that go under: Academic Achievement or Athletic Achievement on the resume? I thought academic but I'm not totally sure.

I also received the Coach's Award from my jumping coach. Would that be something to put under the athletics part?

Finally (at least for now:rolleyes:), I got 3rd place in the CIF JV finals for long jump. Should I include that as well, or do they not really care about JV sports so much?

1. I would put that under academic achievement, but either way you will get some sort of credit for it.
2. Sure, put it down
3. Once again, put it down

Overall, any kind of award or something that shows your achievement should be beneficiary to put down on your resume. I don't know how their system for determining an applicant to be accepted, but I would guess a point system. Use that as an example: They give you x amount of points for each award/achievement that you list. If you don't list it, you can't get more points. If you do list it, and they don't think it is worth anything, than they won't give you points. So it is to your benefit to list anything in your favor! I wish you the best of luck .

Wow!! I didn't know they had a CIF for JV!

Or maybe my team is too poor to send JV kids to CIF and sends only varsity teams instead...

Sweet though. You must be so proud of yourself!!

I'm not sure that it'll matter where you list the athlete scholar thing, just make sure you note it. To answer for just about any application you fill out for colleges or scholarships, as long as you're still within the character or word limit for the accomplishments section, not damn near everything. It doesn't matter if it's small and not very notable in your mind, but it might look otherwise to those taking a look at it. Who knows, a few of those random accomplishments might make a difference in your package. Just make sure you highlight your best and diverse things to show that you're well rounded.

Haha it's not anything like Varsity CIF. Our "finals" is the Varsity's qualifiers or something like that.

Also, on the application it says leadership positions. I went to a leadership conference this past summer. Would that fit in that category?

Again, certainly list it! List anything you can possibly think of since you (and I!) don't know what weight they put on certain things. (Of course make sure they're things you actually did! ). I would definitely think that would go in that category, and think they list leadership positions, just to make you put NHS President, instead of just NHS.

Thanks for all the help guys....one more thing. (At least I think. :shake:)

So at my school, you can receive a letter (for the letterman's jacket) in things other than sports. For example, you get a letter for AFJROTC if you participate on a special team for two years. I was on armed drill team freshman year, color guard sophomore year, and memorial honor detail both years. Would lettering for something other than sports go towards anything on the resume? If so, where would it go?

I've said this a few times in the last few years: You can be humble on the forums. (Especially considering the company). You can be humble at school. You SHOULD be humble around your friends and family. But when it comes to filling out applications for the air force academy and/or colleges; that is NOT the time to be humble. Put everything down. And if you're not sure which category to put it in: (Athletics or Academics); then pick the one you did the accomplishment in. I.e. My son was selected by the "Play it Smart - National Co-Captain". It's a program started by the National Football Foundation, College Hall of fame, bla bla bla... Anyway; even though it's "Sports" related: the program emphasizes academic accomplishment of football players throughout the country. Schools that subscribe, even pay for an academic coach who makes sure all the players stay eligible academically. Anyway; in this case; my son put the achievement down under "ACADEMICS".

If it has to do with a PHYSICAL ACCOMPLISHMENT: Put it under "ATHLETICS". If it required your "BRAIN"; put it under academics. But more importantly; put it down. Don't be shy. Don't be modest. Save the modesty for your friends, family, forums, etc... NOT YOUR APPLICATIONS. Best of luck. Mike.....

Sorry to hijack the thread but i have a question about the SS app too. I applied back in mid-December and at that time I had an unweighted 4.0 GPA. However, I got a B+ in math  so now my GPA and class rank are undoubtedly a bit lower but I don't know what they are. Should I go see my guidance counselor, get my new info, and update my application? Or should I just not worry about it? I know the application follows you in the admissions process so I don't want them to think I lied on my SS application later down the road.

I wouldn't go through the update just for a change in a .05 difference in your gpa. Not for the summer seminar application. Best of luck. mike...
