Running shoes

ok so i know that you have to bring your own pair of broken in running shoes to WP on R day. My question is can they be the Vibram Five Finger KSO? these are minimalist shoes meant to promote being barefoot. I run at least 4-5 miles a day in them and can run the 2 mile faster than ever. Are these shoes allowed or do you have to bring run of the mill running shoes that actually do more harm than good??

In recent years, the directive has been "mostly white" running shoes. But from what I've read here, even if your shoes are allowed, you may want to think twice about bringing anything (like these) that would make you stand out from the pack.
 
with the benefits of these shoes i could care less about standing out. i will stand out because of them. the looks and the fact of how much faster i will be and how less prone to injury i will be. =) i hope they're allowed
 
I understand the importance of doing your best on PT test during beast with these awesome shoes you have talked about, but I believe you don’t understand the full consequences of “standing out” from the rest. I have had two years in srotc and times when I stood out just a little bit were days that I dreaded the most. Beast is going to be hard enough without being constantly yelled at for your standout shoes. My suggestion is to get used to regular tennis shoes because you never know if certain pairs of shoes will be allowed.
 
ill bring both then reqular and vibrams. if i start feeling bad about the vibrams i will switch over.
 
truthfully, if you feel like they will help your performance i say bring them. however, have back up shoes in case they aren't allowed. Standing out means you will probably get yelled at and smoked a little extra. but if you don't mind doing extra PT go for it. I remember R-day at USMAPS the guy next to me showed up in jean shorts and they dropped us for a long time for that. but honestly you only get stronger.
 
Everyone needs to go and look at thses shoes on the website -- I guarantee a smile. I really doubt you will be allowed to wear them during PT at USMA or to take your APFT. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you show up with these on during Beast... :shake:
 
Although you may get some extra attention at first, the ability to achieve your maximum potential in PT should far outweigh any fear of being yelled at by the cadre.

If you read the APFT Administration Instructions, there is no mention of the type of shoe that must be worn, if any at all. Go for it!

Hahaha no way would I bring those. Im sure AF could give you a better idea of what would happen. :yllol:

1) I am pretty sure they aren't authorized.
2) They look absolutely ridiculous.

USAFA had "box boy" and we had "donut boy"

During land navigation, a certain new cadet went outside the roughly 5 square mile course into the city and bought 100+ donuts. (not an exaggeration)

All I know is that the regimental commander (highest ranking cadet during Beast) requested he sit at his table the next day. Didn't hear what else happened to him. The fact that what he did was utterly hilarious probably got him out of some of the trouble. :shake:
 
Just went to the website and checked out the shoes. While they may be great running shoes, I have no idea, with my son's size 15 foot he would FOR SURE look like BigFoot! No disrespect intended :redface:

Well except for the fact that AR 670-1 (Uniform Reg's) say this "Commanders may authorize the wear of commercial running shoes, calf-length or ankle-length, plain white socks with no logos"

So you better go find some 'five-finger' socks to go with your shoes.


Oh my friend, you have alot to learn about the military if you "could care less about standing out."

Sarcasm over: okay, please leave these at home for the time being. If you want to use them to run in on your own then fine. But if you show up for a PFT or other function with those on you will not have a good day.

There are times when it's good to stand out. In general, Beast is not one of those times. :shake:

funny thing is... I think I knew that Mars guy.
 
I enjoyed the posts here... and will add, I think it's still the case at USNA that plebes' lovely white socks had to be "motivated," as in, crew socks pulled to their dorkiest height, as opposed to privileged upper class who could wear anklets. Back in the day (last century, mine, at OCS), it was white TUBE SOCKS that had to be "moto" up to the knees.

Save the shoes, go with the flow, don't let your head drift above the edge of the foxhole. :shake:
