Dropping Stat AP

Hello, I am a Naval Academy Appointee for the class of 2014. When I originally applied I filled out that I was planning to take two semesters of Statistics AP my senior year, however, I am now strongly considering not taking the second semester of the course this year. I want to drop it from my schedule and take a free period in its place so that I can practice trumpet more (we're going to Chicago to play in a few months), work out, and just chill. I had an A first semester, but I don't really like the class because we go extremely slowly. Does anyone think not taking the second semester of this class could jeopardize my appointment? Thanks for any insight.

P.S. My other courses this year are Physics AP C, Government AP, Macroeconomics AP, Calculus AP BC, Band, and Cisco Networking Technologies Dual Credit.
 
No, it won't jeopardize your appointment.

One thing to consider in the long run . . . at USNA, you won't have the option of dropping a hard course or any course in order to focus on ECAs, chill, etc.. NOT saying you shouldn't do it as a h.s. senior but just realize that it won't be an option going forward. That's one of the things that makes SAs so hard -- there is no opportunity to "rest."
 
I will just say that my son is in AP Stats and feels the same way about the course!

I don't know about Navy, but I know that at AF taking and getting a 5 on the exam allows you to validate a semester of Stats there. Might want to look at that if you're going to be an engineering-type major.
 
I had the same question!!! I am going to email my admissions rep just to make sure that it is okay to do so.

There are but a handful of reasons for an offer of appointment to be revoked. Dropping AP Stats is not one of them.
 
Memphis and marciemi or anyone else who might know the answer to this question:

I am currently an appointee who was wondering what would result in a revoked appointment (so I can be positive to avoid anything that slightly resembles a threat to the appointment)?

Common Sense stuff:

Felony arrest is a show stopper - This includes DUI so do not be stupid at your high school graduation or any where else. Testing positive for drugs when you report on I-Day is a guaranteed exit as well.

Do not get seriously injured prior to I-Day- This is a tough one, you can't stop living life but a broken arm, leg, or tearing up a knee beween now and I-Day can keep you out of the Academy. On I-Day you have to pass a medical screen. On my mids I-Day I saw it happen to a kid and his family. Kid broke his arm 4 weeks prior to I-Day and it was not healed enough. He was sent home and refused entry.

As parents, this is where you will hear the term "bubble wrapping" you child those last few months. Again, you can't stop living life but the rock climbing, extreem sport participaton may need to be reconsidered. Use common sense and you should be OK.
