The 2010 Summer Seminar brochure has been posted.

Applications will open February 1, 2010 and selections will be made on a rolling basis.

CGO's target is 2,250 prospective candidates during the first three weeks of June.
 
Thanks for the info...after Feb 1 about how long is it before the rolling selections start? When does one find they are are NOT accepted?
 
Last year the first acceptances came around March 6. For both academies you've asked about, I don't know if/how they told people they weren't selected. For NASS, you got an email telling of your acceptance. My son knew others who'd applied on the first available day along with him, and some of them he found out several weeks earlier than that he'd been accepted. Those people didn't hear anything during those weeks.

Maybe because people get discouraged if they don't get accepted, it seemed like we saw a lot more people reporting about being accepted than not on these boards!
 
Does the application almost always open Feb. 1 for NASS (in other words, will probably open the same date next year for 2011 NASS)?
 
You do not have to apply Feb. 1. Waiting until Feb. 2 or 3 won't kill you. USNA recognizes that, for various reasons, some people may not be able to apply in the first hour or first day. Waiting until March or April isn't smart -- unless you don't learn of NASS until then.
 
I know that the application is electronic and based on your honest answers but is there any other way to distinguish your self other than GPA, rank, or SAT scores?
 
The NASS application is a preliminary application to USNA, so it covers grades, test scores (you can use PSAT scores in place of SAT, if necessary), activities, etc. There are a few opportunities for adding very brief explanations.

**For NASS applicants who haven't already put together a resume, it will make your life MUCH easier if you spend time between now and 1 Feb to put one together. List all sports, honors, awards, community service, or anything else important you've done during your HS years.**
 
I have already put together a resume and i met with the assistent director of admissions in november where i gave it to him. Do you think they will consider that or should i turn in another one with my NASS app?
 
Sorry I wasn't clear in my other post. You will need the information in a resume (classes taken, awards, ECAs, etc.) to fill in the on-line application for NASS, and then again for the final on-line application for USNA.

For the last several years the applications have opened on 1 Feb, so it is reasonable to expect that will be the pattern in the future. However it won't hurt to check www.usna.edu/Admissions in mid January to get the current year's date. Also, be aware that NASS is a highly sought visitation program - last year the program had more than 6,000 apps in the first week! As you can see, the program can be over-subscribed. Do not despair, just as acceptance to NASS does not ensure an offer of appointment, neither does non-selection to NASS mean that the candidate will not get an offer of appointment. Over 40% of appointees did not attend NASS.

I strongly advise prospects also to check www.navysports.com for the schedule of sports camps that will be available - this could be valuable for varsity athletes who are interested in participating in sports at USNA (it never hurts to know a coach). Also be aware that the sports camps are available to younger prospects.

The point is that it is very important that serious candidates get to USNA some way to see what they are getting into - BEFORE committing.
 
Be aware also that USNA has started a new visitation program for younger prospects (grades 8 - 11) called STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This program also is announced and described at www.usna.edu/Admissions, so check there for the particulars. One of last year's workshops was a forensic study of the sinking of the Titanic.
 
I live in central maryland, so, as you most likely know, it is very difficult for me to get in to NASS. I am a junior in high school but have been in contact with many academy affiliates for a few years, so i believe my prospects are up in the air. I appreciate the feed back.

I am interested in attending a SA sports camp (lacrosse), but it costs too much for my parents to pay at once with all the other stuff I'll be doing this summer. Is there any way to do a payment plan to attend (pay in smaller amounts over time)?
